Great camera for the advanced photographer

5

I graduated to using this camera once I became more interested in photography. The higher price is well worth the quality camera that I received! The zoom feature on this camera is phenomenal! I took some great nature shots in a wooded area, and it was great for bird watching. I took some action pictures of bird in flight, and these turned out great! I do not consider myself an expert photographer, but this camera made me feel like one! Recommended for the above average photographer. Image Quality Excellent crystal clear images! Performance Performs wonderfully and takes great pictures even in glare. Ease of Use This was a little difficult for me to figure out, but it was simple once I read the instructions and practiced with the camera. Durability I have not scratched it yet! Battery Life Battery life is decent. The lithium batteries that I used lasted approximately six hours. Portability This camera is a little bit large and slightly heavy. It definitely does not fit in my pocket and it felt kind of awkward to carry.

We use one of these cameras to help with a school yearbook. It took great photos of students on a set background for their class pictures. We also use it for candids and different school events. Even with action shots from basketball and soccer games, we are able to take very clear pictures that turn out great in the yearbook. Image Quality We print these pictures in a yearbook, so they are not very big. But they do turn out very crisp and clear. We also print bigger pictures for individual students to buy (of their own picture), and we end up with great 8x11 pictures. Durability The school bought this camera about two years ago, and we have been able to use it quite extensively without any problems over the last few years. Portability We carry this camera around the school a lot and also take it to sports games at other schools and on class trips. We have a case designed for this model, but it is very portable.

Fantastic Camera!

In my mind, for a budget friendly DSLR it's hard to beat the D50. I used this camera for 7 years and loved it. I used it for everything from taking photos of the moon to family portraits, I even shot 4 weddings with this camera. It truly is a great performer. Today's equivalent is the D90, the only real difference is the megapixel count. The ISO range is somewhat limited as is the continuous shooting capabilities. But if you're using this to photograph children, family, or portraits (like senior photos), than this camera is a great choice. The 6.3mp will make great photos in 8 x 10 and smaller, and so long as your ISO is set low enough, you can get great quality 16 x 24 prints. I once did a panorama with the D50 that came out to 6' long and it was as clear as ever. Another great feature of this model is that the focus motor is in the camera (unlike some of the newer D40 & D60 cameras), this means that any Nikon Autofocus lens is compatible, even if it's from the 70s or 80s. The D50 also uses SD cards, which are easy to find and cheap. In the end, I would still have my D50 it wasn't for the fact that I simply needed something with more professional features, like faster shooting, more ISO options, and better flash sync capabilities. If i could go back, I'd keep my D50 as a back-up for sure.

Great SLR takes beautiful pictures

We got this camera to chronicle our 2 kids growing up. One of my favorite things to do is put it on the sports function and take pics of my kids doing things and then make flip books. They love flipping the pages and seeing them. Defiantly recommend it.

Great camera....easily for the novice to use.

Great camera.  I am definitely a novice picture-taker and most times I can figure it out.  I would definitely recommend buying from a place you can go back and ask questions.  The lenses are easily interchanged and offer a variety of options.

Great entry DSLR

This is a great camera.  I find it easy to use, and it takes great pictures.  I bought the body only and got higher quality lenses.  I would recommend doing the same.  There are a few features people complain about this camera not having, but I don't think that the exclusion of these features will limit most users.  I am very happy with this camera.

I bought this camera a few years ago, and it still works great. It is not too heavy, but it is also not very light. I also purchased an add-on flash to go with it, because I hate the way that the on-camera flashes work. Overall, a great camera. The D70 is also a great camera, but is a lot more expensive.
