I had an earlier version of the coolpix camera and was looking for something with a better Zoom. This certainly provides that. I love being able to get shots that look like you are standing right next to what you are shooting when you are yards away. I've only had it a week, so I"ve not tested out everything, but so far the picture quality has been good both indoors and out. Since I previously had a coolpix, learning to use the menus was pretty easy for me. Most of the scene options are the same, although there are a few additional ones. One thing that bothered me until I figured out how to shut it off, was the option to add effects right after you took the shot. That slowed me down, so once I shut it off, all was good. The one thing I find annoying is the place that the flash pops up, that would be where I typically would have my finger, and it always seems to get int he way. I also find it strange that the flash has to be manually pushed back down. All in all, I'm pretty happy so far.
