I have been using this dehydrator on a regular basis for about six months now and I absolutly love it. It works great for making snacks for the family (fruit rollups made from applesauce and mixes of other fruits, apple, strawberry, and banana chips), beef jerky, dehydrated carrots and sweet potato treats for my dogs, and making dried herbs (its a great way to save herbs purchased from the store when you don't use them all and they come out fresher than bottled). Compared to other dehydrators, the noise level is pretty low, making it easy to leave going on the kitchen counter during the day or overnight. Its especially great in the summer as it doesnt put off too much heat. The other thing that is great about this dehydrator is that you can purchase additional trays to create more space if you need to. I would recomend this dehydrator to anyone who is looking for a reliable product that works well and produces wonderful results.

I have been using my dehydrator for years now and it still works like new! It does a fantastic job and makes the best jerky I've ever had. I made jerky to take on our church choir trips, and it was always the hit of the trip. I now have grandchildren and they love it. We travel quite often, sometimes for 3 to 5 weeks at a time, and the first thing they plan is to help me make beef jerky. At first, I always bought some to take as snacks, but once I made it in my dehydrator, they no longer like the bought jerky. I also send 5 pounds of beef jerky to Peru every spring with our mission group and when they are planning the trip, the first thing the pastor in Peru mentions is, "Don't forget the beef jerky!" Over the years, I have purchased extra trays, and just this year had to order a new lid. I've also made strawberry and banana fruit rolls with it, which is excellent! Also turns out great banana chips! If you like jerky, I highly recommend the Nesco!

This product has been a lifesaver for our family. We love healthy snacks and this product makes it easy to make them. It dehydrates well and does not take long to get it to the right dryness for you. I love the layout of the trays to make more room. Our last one was nothing compared to this one. The only thing I would want it to fix is how loud it is. Other than that it is a great product and I would buy this one over and over again.

For the price, it's not a bad dehydrator IF you don't mind that for even drying you HAVE to rotate the shelves every couple of hours. Since the fan and heating element are in the bottom of the unit, the lower trays dry more quickly than the upper ones. They're also exposed to more heat. They do get dry, but only if you rotate them (or you'll have to wait a lot of extra hours for the upper trays to dry. This style is also stackable, so you can add more layers if you want. But again, rotate for even drying. Once we got tired of doing all the rotating, we bought an Excalibur and are happier. We had more precise heating controls. Also, the Nesco trays don't hold as much as you'd probably want them to. So, if you can afford a different style food dehydrator, I would suggest you look into the square models that have the fan and heating unit on the side so that dry air blows over each and every shelf equally. With this unit, the upper layers don't get as much heat.

Nesco Snackmaster Express Food Dehydrator and Jerky Maker is just what I was looking for. It comes with removable trays that allow ample room to layer the food being dehydrated. The trays are very easy to clean. I washed mine by hand in hot soapy water, although I have a friend that puts hers on the top rack of her dishwasher. The dehydrator comes with a recipe book containing several recipes for a person just starting out. I'll be researching books for additional recipes. The machine itself is fairly quiet. Much like cooking with a crock pot, this appliance takes equal patience. The only reason I gave it a 4 star rating is that I wish it came with more settings. That is probably a personal preference. For a dehydrator on the lower price range, this performs as promised, This gadget will be cost effective for making snacks. There is also the health benefit of knowing exactly what is in the food you prepare yourself.
