Could use a few improvements, but has been a good phone.

The camera is not good but over all the phone works good and is water resistant. This phone can survive falls and other abuse. Although it may be bulky, it has to be in order to survive the abuse it can. I love the direct connect. With a little practice can send texts, although that is not the priority of the phone. Owned the I560 for several years proir to buying this one, it is a good phone for those with active lifestyles that could damage a lesser quality phone. with the military quality, this phone is good for people in emergency management or other extreme occupations. No need to worry about dropping this unit in the water or drops from heights like a roof. This unit can be dropped on cement and keeps working, it can survive jolts and even being run over by vehicles. More than worth it if you need something that can take a kicking and still keep on ticking. Most other phones cannot survive what this one can.

The Motorola i580 is a good phone, but it is limited in function

3

This phone is great for those who are clumsy and drop there phones pretty often. The camera funtion is pretty sad and does not give a clear picture. this phone does not allow you to recieve multi media texts like pictures or videos or voice recordings. I personally have not had any problems with the flip but I know several people with this phone and they have had nothing but trouble with it. the top seems to break off but that is true to most motorola flip style phones. If you are looking for a phone is thin than this is not the one for you. altought is offers alot of the newer items you may be looking for it is still a chunky phone. The one good thing i can say...i have spilled water on the phone and because of the military specifications on the phone i had no problems and kept on using the phone. This phone is easy to navigate and find the funtions you are looking for. Good phone for Nextel users.

The i580 is durable enough to withstand almost anything.

Motorolas i580 is great! I have had a problem with previous cell phone not standing up when I needed them to most. This phone appears to be water proof, as my son helped me find out by giving it a bath in a glass of water. It has a rubber coating that helps to protect it when dropped and is shock resistant. I have dropped this phone so many times and it just keeps right on going. It is a miliary spec. phone that can with stand extreme heat and cold. Although this phone is not as fashionable as a lot of phones they have come out with it is worth it for the durability. I went through three cell phones in five months before getting this phone and this one has wth stood every test my children and I have put it through. I would recomend this phone to anyone who works it the construction business or who needs a durable phone. I am not sure if they offer different colors but mine is a standard black/grey and although very durable it is not a heavy phone.

rugged and reliable cell phone

4

The Motorola i580 is a rugged and reliable cell phone. This phone looks like the sort of phone anyone who operates in a tough and demanding environment would want. The case of this phone looks like it was made to survive plenty of abuse. After several weeks of use by me it still looks new. It has the push to talk capability that Nextel pioneered. The push to talk capability is very useful when you just want to quickly communicate a short message to someone. But I find it tiresome when you need to engage in an extended conversation. If you want a rugged phone, this one will aptly fulfill your needs.

Great phone, lousy coverage

4

I used this Motorola i580 for years, passed up many chances at upgrading the phone, but the service coverage was poor and unaccaptable for traveling. I wish this phone was supported by AT&T, my new cell phone provider. Oh well, maybe Motorola will decide that practical phones built to last years will allow the company to prosper and they won't be asking for a government bailout.

i580 resists water

If you can afford it, buy it. I've dropped it in a puddle of water and it was submersed. I pulled it out, shook it off & was good to talk again. No real problems with this phone. The clip secures the phone tightly to the point where it doesn't come off in just a snap.
