Mio Value

5

Best value for the price. We bought this unit for our first trip to Boston. It contains 6 million points of interest (POI) and its all packed in a very slim nice looking device. It aquires satellites at a fairly fast rate and provides accurate information that a driver can actually use. Very simple to use, but does not have voice commands etc. It does have cellular phone bluetooth capabilities though and comes with an excellent mount for mounting of the unit on your car window. Overall, good value for the money.

Good with stock software, better with outside software

I've had this unit for almost 2 years now and it's still going strong.  I originally got this unit because, unlike many other common GPS's, this one included a SD card slot.  This slot allows you to insert a SD card (which you must provide, because one is not included) and start your own software.   It is not really appropriate in the review to provide links but if you google "Mio C520 unlock" you will find a lot of information on Mio Pocket which is a user interface that allows you to launch other GPS software.  In its stock form, the c520 has a very nice basic GPS software called MioMaps.  The GPS takes less than a minute to locate my position and the routing in general is very good.  However, if you are one of those people that enjoys tinkering with your toys, this GPS will allow you to explore other maping softwares using this GPS hardware.  I have found that the iGo software to be particularly good on this GPS and would recommend that if you are interested in exploring alternate softwares, that you give it a look.

I own this set and yes, it has saved me a lot of gas and frustration. The pros of this device is that the interface is easy to work with. You type in the address under Address, and click Route To for the device to provide you with instructions (audio + graphic instructions). You can also save your common destinations under POI (point of interest). The daytime graphics are nice and the nighttime graphics are even better. The first major negative of this gps unit is that it at times it can take a while for the GPS to pick up signal. What does this mean? It means that you will be aimlessly driving, waiting for the unit to pick up signal, when you start it up. Comapre this to OEM factory gps units that can pick up signal almost immediately. In addition, the directions can sometimes be ambiguous. For example, it may say to take the 405 and will illustrate the route to take, but at times the entrances are right next to each other and you have to guess. Somtimes you guess right, somtimes you don't--but the issue is that there should be no guessing in the first place. Lastly, scrolling is a problem. On the iphone you can simply move your hand along the screen to see the area that interests you. On this unit you are severely limited and mostly have to zoom in and out.

Directional guidance was for one way only...

I bought this Mio GPS system and had to return it.  When I programmed in the location - it simply kept telling me to make a u turn as soon as possible.  There are a few drawbacks, like the fact that the Mio C230 GPS Device doesn't tell you if your destination is on the left or right side of the road. I did not find it very helpful.  The constant talking became quite annoying while driving too.   I would not recommend this GPS device to friends to use.  There are a few drawbacks, like the fact that the Mio C230 GPS Device doesn't tell you if your destination is on the left or right side of the road. My son has a TomTom and it is much more adequate.  It will take you right to the door of the place you are driving to.   I guess you do get what you pay for - the Mio system is one of the least expensive but I feel it would be wise to pay a bit more and get a satisfactory product that does what it says it will.   Do yourself a favor and check into the GPS systems and services before buying one of these.  Sorry Mio but I found your product to be less than good.

Mio C520-Great device, lousy customer support

3

Though I am fairly happy with this device, I have less than stellar opinions about the company and their customer support. The US market is the ugly step-child to the European and Asian markets. This Chinese  company advertised this device as having features that were not available until well over a year after I purchased the device and once the feature (real-time traffic updates) was actually available, I purchased it and it was nearly 2 months before I could get it activated for use.

This GPS has saved so much gas for me.

I use to drive around and get lost all the time, now I can be anywhere and hit HOME, ROUTE TO and it will guide me there.  We had to get one for my husband and son for their cars too - my son does deliveries for a catering company and has increased his tips by being one of their fastest drivers with this.  We love it.

extremely good value and performance for the price

Received this GPS for christmas as a gift.  I work for EMS (Emergency Medical Services) this device has been able to get us in and out of neighborhoods without wrong turns.... I'm very pleased,  I haven't even had a chance to try all the other features (video/music/photos), however the Bluetooth works well.
