I was diagnosed with Lupus 5 years ago. The lupus attacks my joints just like having arthritis, but instead of stopping there my immune system goes on to attack my muscles, connective tissue, skin and organs. My doctor suggested I try this 2 or 3 years ago. But I was afraid because I new that it was a mild chemotherapy drug and I was afraid of the side effects. The only side effects I have had is a slight thinning of my hair and I used to get very tired about 2 hours after I took it, and had to take a nap. I fixed this by taking at night when I want to go to sleep anyway. It really has had a great effect on my Lupus. I ALMOST feel normal. I still have my bad days, but I have more good days now than bad days now, and that's progress.

**Methotrexate is a very good medication for Rheumatoid Arthritis.  It is not something that you want to have to be on forever though.  You have to get monthly blood work.  You also can not get pregnant while you are on it and I think for at least a few months after you quit taking it.  So of course you have to be on birth control and you also have to take folic acid.**

i have RA and take methotrexate.  i feel that it is helping my RA.  I was very frightened to begin this medication.  It is a cancer drug and has a lot of bad side effects.  So far i have not really had any.  My doctor keeps a close eye on me and my progress with this medication.

I started taking this for psoriasis. I have noticed it helping some but might need to take it longer to really see results. Its only been a month.  It is hard on the liver so blood work has to be done every 6 weeks to monitor that. I take it once a week and take folic acid on the other 6 days which is a b compex to offset the side effects by building red blood cells. I have noticed on the day I take it makes me very tired and have to nap but have no nausea with it. Does wonders for arthritis pain also. definitly worth it.

I was diagnosed with lupus 15 yrs ago.I have been on several different medications thru the years with very little relief from any of them.I have had several flare ups this last year and was in hospital with last one.My doctor said he wanted to change my medication and am very glad he tried this.i started taking methotrexate about 3 months ago and am very happy with the relief im getting from this medication.nothing ive taken in 15 yrs has helped me this much.any medication like this one has its side effects for long term use but they all do and since i have to take a medication like this for my disease i want it to work and methotrexate works for me.

I was on this medicine for approximately five years and it worked extremely well.  The dosage can be adjusted as needed dependingon the severity of your symptoms.  Currently suffering from rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.  Disease has been severe enough that have had to have both knees replaced in the past.  Currently am back on the medication.  Working well again.  Only take six small tablets one time a week.  Scheduling is easy and dosage is easy.  Pill is small to take and convenient to carry.  Does not cause any side effects to speak of.  Most arthritis medications upset the digestive tract, intestinal tract or causes rashes.  This does not cause any of these symptoms.  It comes in a generic form that is covered by most insurance plans.  It will cause some liver enzyme elevation after you have been on it for a long period of time.  That was why I came off it the first time.  But the enzymes go back down once you are off the medication.  Therefore, I was able to safely go back on the medication.  So far, liver enzymes have not been affected this second time.  Would highly recommend this medication to anyone who has moderate to severe arthritis problems.

**Hi People,  I feel I have a duty to write this for all you who are needlessly suffering severe pain due Psoroatic Arthritis**.  My Dad is 53yo and has been suffering for about 15 years, he has been getting gradually worse over time to the point were he couldn't get out of bed, or fix his hair, drive his car etc.  This as you can imagine was heartbreaking for me to watch, the decline of a big, strong, active man, to what looked like a dying 90 year old.  Not only was it destroying his body but it was killing him mentally too as he could see no way out.  His GP is in my opinion an idiot, and has been pumping him full of anti-inflammatorys, and co-codamol for years, of which he has been taking 2 or 3 time as much as he should to dull the pain.  This in itself is destroying his insides and robbing him of an appetite, thus causing weight loss. I couldn't bear to watch this merciless destruction of my hero any longer and got to researching his illness and treatments on the net ( WIKI is super for research ). I found out about Methotrexate, I then found a local specialist, got an appointment, got him on it...................and oh my god, I cannot beleive what methotrexate has done for him.  Honsetly, he is back to being the Dad I used to know, hes at the gym 3 times a week, he can wrestle about with the kids, he is just simpy fixed and has ZERO pain, no more anti inflams or co-codamol, appetite is back, putting on weight.  Your GP may not want you to know about drugs such as these as they are expensive and the NHS is paying...but don't take no for an answer, tell them straight.  So their you have it, that my first ever review on anything, I owe it to methotrexate, and if someone out there can read this and it opens the door for them, them I am happy, there are so many others out there suffereing who really dont need to be. I have had Psoriatic Arthritis since my teens though it was not diagnosed until many years later. I have taken Methotrexate for 6+ years now and wish I had known of it sooner. Before starting this drug I could barely get up in the morning. My feet constantly ached and I couldn't stand up straight until after about 10 minutes of constan momement. My hands & fingers were just as bad, stiff & constantly aching. In my 30's I felt like I had the body of a 90 yr old.  Since taking Methotrexate I have much better movement, can stand straight right away, have few days with any pain and can work on a computer all day.  I am on a pretty low dosage and so far I have not had any side effects from this drug. I am taking it with Folic Acid to help prevent the hair thinning or loss.
