Something is Better than Nothing for Scars.

I'm always getting lightly burned by the electric oven's racks when I remove baked goods. It happens so regularly that I have a little path of burn scars from these "altercations" with the oven racks through  the years. Sounds careless, but, it does happen when I rush things. So, my arm shows this tendency of mine, as a repetition of faint white burn scars along the tops of my lower right arm. I got tired of looking at them and that's how I found **New Skin Scar Therapy at CVS.** It was the cheapest of the scar therapy bunch. It's main **scar reducing ingredient was Dimethicone**. Other products used Onion Bulb Extract, some used a combination of both with proprietary herbal extract blends. No matter, I picked New Skin--the cheapest of the scar therapy selections. It came in a concentrated 0.5 oz tube. **New Skin Topical Gel **promises to **reduce the appearance of scars**--not remove them. That's impossible to do unless you have dramatic surgical excision of the scar itself, or you might try laser resurfacing, or injectable scar therapies.  **The results of this gel do not duplicate any of** **these procedures**. **So, with an understanding that "drama" would not be a part of my scar success story,** I started to use New Skin within weeks of my most recent burn scars. They only appeared red and somewhat tender, and slightly raised  with scar tissue, at that point in time. I must interject at this point, to make you aware that my olive skin heals with some keloid features. My scars often resemble each other as raised, slightly thick, discolorations in contrast to my golden skin tone.  So, scars are a lot more unsightly on me, than other people. And, I have very few scars that I haven't had injected with steroids to lighten and flatten their appearance, through the years. **My Experience with New Skin**: I used **New Skin Scar Therapy Gel for 4 months**. I washed my scars, dryed them and gently mesaged a thin cover over the scars twice a day--morning and night. Excess gel was wiped away. I never faltered in this procedure. The scars were high enough on my arms to avoid contact with water that would wash the product away. I waited for results and this is all that I can say. My burns were not serious to begin with, but, they had healed with some discoloration and rough texture. **New Skin "appeared" to have** **softened the redness and texture of these minor burns**. Would they have healed the same way  without New Skin applied for four months?  I cannot be sure, because I had also used Neosporin on these burns when I first received them. Neosporin had promoted marvelous healing, as well. **DIRECTIONS FOR USE**:  Wash the affected area and pat dry. Gently message New Skin Scar Therapy Gel over the affected area 2x a day-morning and night. Wipe away excess gel. **Cautions**: Avoid direct contact with eyes, mucous membranes and open wounds. If redness or irritation occur, discontinue use and consult your physician. Keep out of reach of children. **Must** **not be used on broken skin. **may stain clothing if not completely dry.  **New Skin Scar Therapy Gel** will not clog your pores, and its main active ingredient is Dimethicone, a form of silicone. It's **clear, odorless, non-irritating, and softens** the scar, in time. This gel is more like a good moisturizer to me. It will soften the scar and that's a good thing. It did make the scar less noticeable in appearance by blending it better into the surrounding skin. The scar is not gone, nor ever will be gone. But, for minor scars (mine was 2 inches long), this New Skin Scar Therapy Topical Gel might help ease their discoloration and improve the texture, if your scars have similar traits. **INGREDIENTS**:  Dimethicone, Vinyldimethicone **MY OPINION**:  I have no astounding results to report with my usage of **New Skin Scar Therap**y **Topical Ge**l. I think that it is primarily a **skin-conditioning agen**t, (a really good moisturizer) that reduced the roughness, color, and appearance of my minor burn scars.  It promised to reduce the "appearance" of scars, according to the label, and the key word is "appearance". That is also open to subjective interpretation. If "reducing the appearance of scars is primarily aesthetic, in nature, then I did **receive some** **minor reduction in discoloration and softening of texture**. This **New Skin** will not remove a deep scar. That is a fact. Scars that affect the dermis, the middle layer of the skin, and are quite large may not achieve any aesthetic results.  All skin and scars are different. Each person has skin that heals differently. So, it is really trial and error as to what scar therapy might work best for you. Your doctor can also recommend his best scar therapy, as well. Therefore, New Skin Scar Therapy may provide some aesthetic benefits OTC, but, don't expect miraculous results. Be realistic.
