Oh how I wish I would have researched my microwave purchase before buying this one. This Maytag microwave is so annoying. It does not heat my food evenly. The plate or bowl will be scorching hot but the food will still be cold and even frozen in the middle. The reheat button is a joke. I have yet to get my food reheated properly using this feature. The defrost button cooks the meat on the ends while the food is still frozen in the middle. With both the reheat and the defrost button you have to input weight in pounds. I'm not always reheating a pound of something nor is it always food. I would like to have had a beverage button option. We drink a lot of hot tea. I had a cheap basic brand microwave that sat on my counter that worked better than this Maytag microwave. Overall, this microwave is very limited in its features and does not cook the food evenly. I do not recommend Maytag appliances.

I like my Maytag microwave a lot. It is built to be very durable and sturdy. I can use it to heat up leftovers without burning them. It is also great for defrosting frozen meats or veggies. This is great for nights that I am in a hurry and need to prepare a mean quickly. I have never had an issue with this microwave as far as durability goes. I also love the fact that I can set it to heat up food at certain power levels. This is important to make sure things do not get overheated. I find the design of the microwave to be sleek and stylish. The black color coordinates perfectly to the oven that it hangs over. It is perfect for over-range placement.

This microwave is 7 years old, which is pretty good for a microwave. The turntable only turns occasionally, but the microwave works well other than that. The controls are easy to use. I like the "add 30 seconds" button. Another useful feature is the auto defrost feature, that lets you put in the weight of the food, and it automatically adjusts the power over the cooking time to defrost the food. The fan is loud, but seems to work pretty well in sucking up the air. The microwave is easy to clean, except for the vents at the top, but we found an old toothbrush fit in and cleaned those well. It does not seem to be a super-powerful microwave, but it cooks food in an average time.

I purchased the Maytag 1000 Watt Over-the-Range Microwave Oven in black a couple of years ago.  I replaced an under the counter model with the over the range type thinking I would have more counter space which I did.  But at what a price.  I've only had the oven about 2 years and it is failing.  The keypad is displaying all eights and the oven shuts down, sometimes when I shut the door the inside light comes on,  sometimes when I press the start button the vent does on, etc.(it's like the wires are crossed).  It is sort of working but I am sure it won't be for long.  I was very careful to always run the vent while cooking on the stove or when I had the oven going so the electronic pad would not get hot.  I think it is the electronic pad that is bad and it is too expensive to have repaired so I will be looking for another microwave.  I did like the one touch buttons and it cooked foods nicely, but the vent was very very noisy.
