Magellan Roadmate 1220 gets me where I need to go!

My husband and I bought a Magellan Roadmate 1220 because of a really good sale.  Before we even used it we gave one to a family member and one to a friend as gifts.  They both told us how much they loved it.  They compared it to other GPSs they had used and said they liked the roadmate much better.  We've used it now for several months and have also found it to be a great GPS.  I like that it warns you of upcoming turns on the screen, by telling you 2 miles out, couple hundred feet out, and then dings right before the turn.  I know I'll never miss a turn that way.  It has great maps, and it's easy to find locations on it such as rest areas and restaurants.  It runs on the cigarette lighter, but also has a battery to get you through stopping for gas.  If I had one issue with it, it would be the voice and pronunciation of the names of streets and cities.  Though sometimes funny, it could become confusing in a place I didn't know if I wasn't paying attention.  Everything else, however, is great and I would definitely recommend this GPS to anyone.

The perfect GPS -- if you want to give yourself a breakdown

Ohhhh, boy. I don't know where to start about the epic fail that is the Magellan RoadMate 1220. I guess I'll begin by saying that in my job, a GPS receiver is essential, so I hit the books (Amazon reviews) and chose this one. Here is the bottom line: This GPS is now sitting in a box in the bottom of my hall closet because it stopped working. Yes, it stopped working, after less than a year. There is clearly something wrong with the power cord, so it won't hold a charge for more than five or ten minutes, which is REALLY not helpful when you're trying to drive somewhere. However, when it was working, it took forever to get a signal. It would say that I was driving in Seattle when in fact I was 40-something miles away and had been in Seattle the day before. I would reload the trip, cancel and restart, and it would still say I was in Seattle. I usually had to wait and hope it would pick up a better signal. Epic. Fail.
