I love it!

5

I have a coal burning stove that I use to cook on and heat my house in the winter. Of course, everything tastes better when it's made over a coal fire, but everything I cook in my Lodge Color Enamel Cast Iron Dutch Oven turns out absolutely phenomenal! It is perfect for cooking on a coal stove because of its thickness and its high heat tolerance. I cook soups, chili, and even bake breads in my Lodge Color Enamel Cast Iron Dutch Oven over a warm, raging coal fire. I love that it has a six quart capacity as well. When my husband makes chili, three people can, and likely will, eat an entire six quart batch in no time at all. I love the dark green color of my Dutch Oven too, it makes it a lot easier to hide the darker areas at the bottom that are caused by the close proximity to the raging fire. However, despite the amount of use my Lodge Color Enamel Cast Iron Six Quart Dutch Oven gets, and despite nearly all of that usage being over a coal fire, it has proven to be an extremely durable Dutch Oven.

Great looking, great performing, great price

I had decided to start replacing my old pots and pans and really liked the colored enamel cast iron. The Lodge Color Enamel Cast iron pans are fantastic. This is the best pan that you can own for roasting, for staying new looking, and it will outlast any other pan. Now that said, let me say it is the heaviest pan that I have ever tried to lift and when it is hot and filled with food, It is almost impossible for me to lift/. Doesn't Stick I haven't had any problem with sticking however I do use a cooking spray. Heat Distribution I think the heat distribution must be why everything taste so much better when cooked in this pan. You can even cook some of those less expensive cuts of meat and have it come out fork cutting tender. Ease of Handling This pan is made to last but I was a little surprised at just how heavy it is, especially when it is hot and filled. Ease of Cleaning I have to admit I was hesitant and thought this pan would be difficult to clean. Wrong, it is one of the easiest that I have cleaned and I plan to add other sized pans soon. Design The shape, the colors that you can choose from all make this a beautiful cooking piece. We like that the inside is a cream color and I can see the food a lot easier when checking on it and it just looks more eye appealing. Durability This will be the one pan that will last a life time. I can see this pan being past down from grandma to granddaughter. I plan to replace all of my pans with this brand. New colors make this a warm and inviting kitchen.

Good Dutch Oven

4

This dutch oven is good for cooking food or for letting it sit and simmer for awhile (such as with spaghetti sauce). We have even made diced potatoes in it and they turned out quite well. Doesn't Stick Some foods, such as oatmeal, need to be stirred pretty constantly while cooking or else they will stick to this dutch oven. Foods like oatmeal and spaghetti sauce will also dry onto this dutch oven pretty quickly after it is done cooking. Heat Distribution This dutch oven distributes the heat quite well. Even when we make spaghetti sauce or chili that will just sit and simmer, the heat travels through it well enough to cook it thoroughly without needing to stir it around. Ease of Cleaning If food has dried onto the dutch oven, then it can take awhile to get it off, as it needs to be soaked first and then scrubbed. But the inside is pretty smooth, making it easier to scrub (as opposed to having ridges that let food get caught and are difficult to scrub through). The coating on the inside can also come off through scrubbing too hard or using something that is too abrasive, so you need to be careful what kind of sponge you use.

Flavor-max!

5

I love the Lodge Cast Iron line and the Dutch Oven provides maximum flavor. Tasty dishes are easy to make anywhere as you can just chop up and throw in your ingredients. I would prefer one without enamel in future, but other than that this product is perfect. Also made in USA! Product is priced right for long lasting cookware. Surface doesn't scratch just absorbs flavor. It is a little hard to get used to cleaning without the soap, but as the company explains the pan is sanitary by the time it is hot enough to cook off. Heavy, but heavy duty, can be used on the grill or the stove. This piece of cookware will last a life time. Things can get burnt on to the Dutch oven at times. I would recommend a scouring pad or steel wool. Can also be cleaned by filling with water and heating at low temperature, then use a piece of metal cookware to scrape off. This piece of cookware will save your kitchen. No need to buy more flimsy scratch off teflon pans. Instead of poisoning you, Iron is actually beneficial to consume in food. And a cast iron pot lasts longer than 10 teflon pans.

Performance without the Premium

5

This has been a fabulous addition to my kitchen. I had wanted an enameled cast iron Dutch Oven for some time, but hesitated to buy on account of the cost of most of the "big names" in this market. Once I learned about Lodge, I was excited to finally try one. The pot is lovely to look at, for starters, and performs like a dream. Yes, it is heavy - but this works to your advantage! For example, I have never seen meat brown so evenly and deeply, and the smooth, slightly glossy interior really does not cause sticking issues. Simmering a stew or sauce is so easy because of the even heat distribution by the cast iron. I have used this pot on my ceramic smooth-top range with no trouble at all; I take care not to slide it across the top, and of course am careful not to drop it, since it is so heavy. I have also used this pot in the oven to bake bread, and it turns out wonderfully crusty, nicely browned, and amazingly delicious loaves of artisan breads. I would heartily recommend Lodge products to any cook, novice or professional.

Durable dutch oven that cooks wonderfully

5

Before receiving this Dutch oven as a gift, I had never cooked with cast iron before. After having used this product for over a year now, I have to say that it is one of my favorite kitchen cookware pieces. I love that it can be used both on the stove, as well as in the oven and that it is naturally non stick. I have the blue colored product and it looks very nice to serve in as well. The heat distributes very evenly and I don't have a problem with burning the bottom of a dish before the middle is cooked as I have with other pans. This is also easy to clean and very durable. My only complaints are the heaviness of the Dutch oven, but this is to be expected with cast iron. Also, I have had a small problem with the enamel beginning to chip a bit on the rim of the lid where it sits on the pot. I have remedied this by placing a paper plate between the lid and the bottom when I store this so it helps it from rubbing somewhat. Overall, I am very happy with this product and would buy it again!

Excellent Pot, especially for the price

Been using Lodge cast iron since Boy Scouts. The Enamel Dutch Oven exceeds expectations at exceptional price point. Great for browning food and then de-glazing to get all the flavor out of the pan. Now my Go-To pot for everything from tomato sauce, soups, chili, and pot roast. Great size and it looks good enough to leave out on top of my cabinets as a decoration when not in use. I even use it to bake bread in a 500 degree oven with a very "wet" dough. Makes a great crusty bread. Doesn't Stick It is not a non-stick surface. Made for browning and de-glazing. Heat Distribution great for simmering on low heat on a gas stovetop. Ease of Handling very good handles. Ease of Cleaning I use a quick swish with some Bleach Powder.

A great addition to my cookware

5

I've had my Lodge dutch oven for over a year and use it about once a week. I'd priced similar products and was impressed that the Lodge pot offered a lot of the same qualities as it's higher priced competitors. I use this pot for everything. I braise cheaper cuts of meat to make tender, mouthwatering meals. I use it to bake beans and even to "simmer" spaghetti sauce in the oven. It's really heavy weight so I feel like it has the durability to stand up to long term use. Cleaning it is a snap. Baked on food wipes right off as if it were a nonstick surface. The colors are beautiful. I have the red and I love how it adds a pop of color when it's stored away in my glass front cabinets. I just can't say enough about how much I love using this. Ease of Handling It's heavy weight

Built To Last

This enamel dutch oven is a great value. This is made to last not just a lifetime but several. It's solid construction makes it excellent at heating evenly and the enamel coating makes it easy to clean. This dutch oven can go from the stove to the oven. A must have for those beautiful slow simmered recipes. Doesn't Stick Your food won't stick as long as you use adequate oil and make sure it's heated up before adding it. Heat Distribution This dutch oven browns food nicely. Ease of Handling If you have an injury or arthritis this dutch oven like anything else made of cast iron can be diffult for some to handle. Ease of Cleaning A little soak usually is all I need to clean it up. Design It fits well in the oven. Durability This dutch oven is with out a doubt going to last you your entire life and whoever you give it to after that.

Lodge Dutch Oven - A dependable workhorse

4

This is one of the most used and definitely one of the heaviest things in my kitchen. The enameled surface of this dutch oven makes it excellent for a variety of purposes. Many of my favorite recipes that would otherwise require several dishes (to make a sauce, or to brown meat for a stew) can all be done in the dutch oven. It's well suited to stewing, roasting, frying (which I haven't tried but want to), searing, etc. The enameled surface also provides the benefits of cast iron, such as heat retention and distribution, while eliminating the need to maintain seasoning. It's also an easy surface to clean, though it needs to be hand washed. Messes that might require a long soak in some other pots responded extremely well to a little soap and scrubbing. With those benefits come some drawbacks inherent to cast iron. Once you get it into the sink, it's easy to clean, but getting it there can be rough, since as I mentioned before, it is **heavy.** The enameled surface is mostly durable, but can be scratched by metal utensils, so plastic or wood are essential. While Lodge dutch ovens are very inexpensive compared to Le Creuset or other high end brands, that can be reflected in their quality. Mine has developed a few chips in the enamel over its life (luckily on the outside, so it's still usable), and Lodge in general has a reputation for easy chipping. The good part is that you can ruin quite a few of these and still spend less than you would have on one Le Creuset. Overall my Lodge dutch oven has proven to be an extremely good value, and remains one of the most reliable and most frequently used items in my kitchen. If you treat it right, it should provide the same value to you.
