Lightweight, portable computer

4

My husband and I just purchased this Lenovo Ideapad about ten days ago. It was an adjustment at first, because the touch and feel of it was so very different from our old Dell, but it is really a nice computer. It is compact and lightweight, very easy to transport or carry around. Yet it is not too small to operate. The computer itself is easy to use and figure out. It seems well constructed, and it runs quickly. The operating system we have on our computer is not at all easy to figure out, but the computer itself is quite user friendly. The mouse is very sensitive, so that takes some getting used to, as does the touch screen. But I have found it nice to have both options. Even my 5 and 7 year old were able to use this computer and operate it smoothly, so you know it isn't too complicated! The battery life is vey satisfactory, usually lasting even longer than the computer itself estimates. Thus far we are happy with this computer, and the price was right too.

Computer experience for me was poor.

The computer has had many issues including the charging port tearing apart and being unusable. Also, the battery no longer charges, and this is the second battery I have purchased, excluding the original battery (3 total). Ease of Use Easy usage in the respect of the computer's layout and functioning abilities. Battery Life Absolutely the worst instances I have ever had with a battery for any given product. THis is the worst thing about the computer. Support & Service Good customer support and assistance through the issues I had. Speed/Performance Faster speeds than most other brands I know. Design Strong design and capabilities individually. Durability Battery was not very durable, yet other things about the computer have been very durable.

Good product with a little glitch

I bought my idea pad last August 2011, for business use. The product is light-weight and very sleek in design (when you compare it with Mac). I'm very pleased that it's not glossy! I have a travelling job, so after I got used to carrying a tank like Dell Precision - this is awesome. I used it only on normal business hours and took care of it. The product crashed 5 months later and customer service refused to pay for my shipping to send in for repair. The customer service is very poor - in 30 minutes, I was transferred to 3 reps and finally they 'agreed' to waive off the shipping after we mentioned someone had the same issue and got the repair service with free shipping. My motherboard had to be replaced and my data could not be replaced. Since then, never had any problems, the prduct works fine and performs well especially when you're connected to multiple databases and user interface and animation designing softwares. Ease of Use Easy Support & Service One call to Customer service, transferred to 3 people (and one was rude when he couldnt understand the issue)

my computer

It is two years since I got my Lenovo Ideapad Y450 Notebook. Unlike many other friends, I am not skilled and interested data, I am satisfied with its good speed of window 7and its great storage ability. Also, I am very glad to have its inner webcam of quality to communicate with my friends and relatives on line. My most awesome experience with this laptop is that it survived half cup of water spilled on it on Christmas day after I tried to dry it with hairdryer. Maybe it would be ok with or without using hairdryer. You know, my friend's Dell was damaged with a little water spilled on it. I really like my computer and it is worth recommendation.

Great stylish design and very easy to use. It is not as thin and sleek as other notebooks but feels strudy and durable. Easy to open and close, very reliable, great speakers and a adequate number of ports are the best features. It does not overheat when in use for a long period of time. Great modern look-sleek and shiney on the inside with a txtured pattern cover that is smooth to the touch. Has a buit-in web cam and face recognition. Ease of Use Turn it on and it runs great. Came loaded with Windows 7 it runs fast and effeciently. It runs youtube videos very well without a long wait time for buffering. Travels well and feels sturdy. Adequate number of ports for headphones, etc. and the volume levels adjust well. Battery Life Mostly, I keep plugged in so battery life is less an issue for me than it may be for others. Support & Service It comes with a one year warranty on parts and labor. For additional costs, other warranties can be purchased. Luckily, I have never had any issue with my Lenovo IdeaPad. I use it many hours everyday and it continues to run as good as it did the day I received it. Speed/Performance Speed is great. It has no problems keeping a fast wireless speed or connection. No long wait times for buffering while watching videos. Can handle several tabs open and running simultaneously. Design While it is not as sleek and slim as other models, it is modern with a sleek shiney interior and a pattern texture on the outside that is smooth to the touch. Copper colored trim. Durability Absolutely no problems in traveling with it. I travel with it 5 days per week and never had an issue. It is lightweight but feels substantial. It is durable to take with you daily and reliable enough to work with speed and consistency.

besides the cover, this laptop is great

Honestly, this computer is wonderful. It is so powerful and has a gigantic hard drive. I can run a million things at once and nothing slows down. the touchpad seemed weird at first (just a different texture of a touch pad that I am used to), but I adjusted very quickly. The batter lasts a really long time (over 3 hours of battery life). The webcam is really good quality too. The only thing that I do not like about this laptop is the cover/lid (not sure what you want to call it). It is really shiny and can look very fancy/nice BUT is smudges like crazy. It always has fingerprints on it and it scratches very easily :(......I've only had it for a couple months and it has two deep scratches in it already. :( Other than that minor esthetic detail, this computer is magnificent and I would recommend it to anyone.

Lenovo IdeaPad - Suggestions for improvement

3

Let's start with the pros.  The Lenovo IdeaPad Y550 (41865BU) has a neat honeycomb-like design on the top of the laptop.  It has a LONG battery life.  I like the depression feeling of the touchpad buttons when they are being pressed.  There is a very convenient SD card slot on the front of the laptop, making downloading photos quick and easy. Now, on to the cons...  The monitor brightness cannot be adjusted as low as I would like.  The Fn button is in an inconvenient location--typically where the Ctrl button is on other (more traditional) keyboard layouts.  The touchpad is a weird texture--like tiny, flatter braille. Also, the touchpad is too sensitive--my fingers or thumbs accidentally relocated my curser when I'm typing due to the touchpad picking up an unintentional touch.  The USB ports are located on the right side of the laptop near the front.  This is very inconvenient for plugging in a mouse, as the USB plug-ins interfere with where my wrist would most naturally be located while using the mouse.  The power cord does not wrap/bundle on itself very conveniently.  The machine blows out a noticeable amount of hot hair from the vent on its left side.  However, this might fall under the pro list in the winter time! And some neutral comments...  There are 3 volume buttons to the right of the keyboard: volume up, volume down, and mute (in order from top button to bottom button).  Top and center above the monitor is a built-in camera.

good one but little sparings

I got this laptop like 5 months ago and completely addicted to it. Its amazing the Lenovo is making  such matured products will will rock the worls woith high quality computers. This one cam with Windows 7 Operating system wich  is more efficient and stable. Alos it came with  a variety of other software titles including the usual 90 day trial stuff from Norton and Microsoft Office. It has a very good 14 inch backlight HD LED display screen, a nice keyboard touch and layout, tons of connections (for a mouse), good sound for a laptop, and the capability to run any software available today.  Mine came with 4GB of 204-Pin DDR# SODIMM RAM, the max for any 32 bit operating system. The motherboard has a 2.1Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processory #T6500 with a bus speed of 800MHz and 2M gate. In other words it cooks right along. It has a dual layer DVD, Dolby Home Theater premium audio system which is nice for movies, etc.  It has this face recognition password system which allows you to sign onto the system by just sitting in front of it. That save a few steps and provides good security. The tiny camera is located at the top of the lid. About the comments of the touchpad being sensitive I have found in my experience that any laptop touchpad is twitchy. overall this is a very good laptop with good features. Altought this one doesnt seem to be sturdy.
