I have been using the Lasko 5900 space heater for at least two years and only recently the power knob broke off of it. I now use pliers to turn it off and on, but other than this it works just fine. There are two different levels for power - one will blow air (or warm air) and the second level is really the heating level. The second knob controls the heat intensity and depending on what level it's positioned at, the heater will turn on and off. I usually turn it to the middle level, or just enough to turn off the heater and this way it works as a thermostat and switched on and off throughout the night. If I turn the heater knob up to full blast, I almost always wake up in the middle of the night because my room is too hot or the air is too dry. I only wish this heater had been made with some type of switch-off device like my automatic coffee maker, so if I forget to turn it off before going to work, then it will shut off itself.
