Sicky Sweet
I was getting tired of Kashi and wanted to try something new, so since I had a coupon, I decided to get South Beach Living Protein Fit Cranberry Almond cereal bar. I figured, it's South Beach Living, which is a diet, so it MUST be healthy. WRONG! I like having the bars in the morning with my coffee, which can be pretty early (about 5:30 or 6:00am). When I bit into this thing, I was overwhelmed by a sicky-sweet flavor. It was way too sweet for my tastes and not at all what I was expecting. So I look on the ingredients and there it is: Syrup, sugar, and further down the line corn syrup (aka. high fructose corn syrup). No wonder it was sicky sweet! I should have looked at the ingredients first, before blindly buying it, but I didn't think it was necessary since it was supposed to be a DIET product. Yah, right. I am not dieting, I am trying to eat healthy. I am trying to cut out all this extra flavoring and sugars that are freely added to so many foods on the market. I will NEVER take it for granted again that just because a product is put out by a diet company, that it contains healthy ingredients. They may be healthier than some of the other choices out there, but I, for one, will choose not to have this product again and opt for products that are actually healthy.
