I have never booked a trip online as I was always hesitant until I heard from a trusted friend about HotelsCombined. I gave them a shot for my recent trip to Singapore. I booked with Crowne Plaza Hotel in advance via HotelsCombined and never had any problem. Their website got everything covered. Enjoyed reading their blog as well. In fact, I've recommended HotelsCombined to relatives and friends who are travelling this year.

I use this site to compare hotel prices and I don't like it because it never quotes prices from hotel's own page - quite often hotel's own page show the same prices as online travel agencies. Also the results are misleading because they tried to convert currencies from foreign hotel sites, which looked cheap at first but then it ended up with the same price as hotel's own site. I don't think the site is useful for bargain hunters.
