Oh my goodness, there are not enough good things I can say about this fan, seriously! When we moved out west we did not realize just how many places did not come with air conditioning, we thought it was standard. So, when we rented our apt. for a year we were shocked to see no a/c, no ceiling fans & only gas heat. Disappointed, we bought a window fan. This one was a replacement for the original 20" box fan we bought. Finally, we had air movement! This fan is amazing. It's small but powerful & has a low, high setting which is great for nights it gets chilli. Some days it can get close to 90* but it doesn't bother us as long as the fan's on. It works great whether in the bedroom or in the living room, which is open to the dining room & kitchen. So, it's a pretty big area to cover & does wonderfully! The former fan was great for air circulation, but didn't cool off the house from air outside, this one does. I only wish it would come with more extenders, you have to buy those separately. Our windows are a lot wider than normal, so the extenders are necessary unless you need extra storage for books and have the sill to do it. We just put books on one side up to the edge of the fan & it looks great, no need to buy extenders. Design For larger windows extra extenders are needed, sold separately.

Unfortunately I had to replace my single blade Holmes window fan. I bought and returned one un-remarkable unit and thought I scored with this model from Holmes...not really. It's quiet yes, but it's quiet because it's weak. High speed is like low to medium, not cool. I would NOT recommend this fan unless you only need some air to circulate.

This fan my mother bought in March of 2010, but I also live here and use is regularly so I feel right reviewing it. The fan sits comfortably in the window, there seems to be few spaces between the fan and the edges because of the accordion type sides of the fan. The only problem I see with window fans in general is it becomes easier to break into the house. This one runs quietly and smoothly, hardly notice it in the background. It does a great job of exhaling the air too. The reason we bought it is because my mother smokes in the house and the neighbors complained about the smell. Now there are no more complaints also after adding a couple of Honeywell air purifiers. My mother mentioned she hasn't noticed a big change in the electricity bill but a minor rise probably a combination of the purifiers and the fan too. One thing I don't like about the fan is the controls are tricky. In order to keep the fan running all the time you have to set temperature perimeters, it's quite complicated.

The Holmes Window Mount Fan is really great for those hot summer nights. especially when you don't have an air conditioner.  It really helps to cool it off when the temperature starts to drop a little at night. Even our animals like them! Certainly makes for a more comfortable nights sleep for everyone. Wounldn't want to be with out one!
