The humidifier works well. The filter can be replaced and it's a good idea to check it often because you don't want it to get moldy. We often bought extra filters to have on hand to replace. During the dry winter months in Alaska we have found that a moderate sized humidifier works well in our bedroom. We turn a humidifier in our bedroom while we sleep. I like to keep humidifier fans on low so that the background noise is moderate and not to loud to make at night. Covering the light on the units will also keep you from waking and this can be done with tape or even a small towel. Adding warm water to the humidifier in the evening seems to work well too.

I have personally owned the Holmes Cool Mist Hudifier for a few years and it has been in my family a little longer than that. It is a durable product that should last you a long time. We mainly use the humidifier to help ease congestion (via more humid environement) when a child has a cold. It has also been useful lately in the winter and now that we live in a more dry environment. This humidifier is not as fancy as some with all the bells and whistles, and it's not that pretty. But it is simple and gets the job done. We have not yet had any problems with mold or mildew in the humidifier (as is a problem with some units). We simply replace the water every 1-2 days.

We have had this humidifier for, I would guess, about 5 or so years. It is hard for me to remember because it has been so long. It works great and does just what it is supposed to do: put moisture into the air. We have about an 800 sq. ft. area and it does just fine keeping down the static in the winter time. Output Volume nice fan output Performance Has lasted for years with no trouble Ease of Cleaning Still has nooks and crannies, but easy to take apart and clean. Big tip: make the filter last longer by soaking a crusty filter in a bucket filled with 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water for a couple of days. Makes it like new. Have another filter on hand to switch off with so you can keep the humidifier running. Durability lasts for a very long time Design Looks good enough. I'm not asking for high tech or anything to match my decor.

I love this humidifier for our home in Colorado. It's very dry out here but I only have to refill the humidifier tanks maybe every other day. The filters are kind of expensive but this humidifier keeps our home comfortable and I'm willing to pay the price for that. It's also very easy to clean, which I love.

I received this humidifier as a gift several years ago after having dry winter skin for most of my life.  It has been a lifesaver.  It is now a routine that when the heater is kicked on every winter, the humidifier comes out.  I can definately tell a difference when I do not have it running.  In the winter, my skin all over gets dry and itchy and my hands crack and bleed.  This humidifier has 3 speed settings and also a humidity level so you can customize to your own needs.  All I have to do it fill it about every other day and my skin is much more tolerable every winter.  The filter it takes is very reasonably priced and I only have to buy one every year - the filter gauge tells you when it is time for a new one.  Cleaning it is pretty easy and there are not a lot of parts - it is a pretty simple unit.  I hear so many people having problems with their humidifiers, but I have had this one for 7 or 8 years and have not had a single problem with it.  Guess when this one goes out, I will just hope that they are still selling this same model.  It is kinda big, but that just means that I do not have to refill it as often as many others.

The Holmes Cool Mist Humidifier is a good deal for the money. I've bought a few Holmes products for our house and the only reason we have a problem keeping them working is because our children think they're toys. They're always turning on and off the switches and pulling it apart. Consequently, we've had a few break over time. They are, unfortunately, not sturdy enough to stand up to my three kids!

I am reviewing the Holmes Cool Mist Humidifier HM3500.  I bought this humidifier because I was always dry.  I didn't expect it to work for the whole house but it does.  It is kind of big but it holds 6 gallons of water and only needs to be filled every other day.  It kicks on and off to keep the humidity level comfortable.  It is noisy on high but I keep it set to low and even my upper bedroom are humidified.  The water containers slip out and you can take them right to the sink for filling.  There are four wheels that enable you to move the humidifier around.  Cleaning is okay, the shape of the refill containers make it hard to get all of the water out.  It has a light that tells you when to refill.  I compared prices and found that this one was very reasonable for my needs.
