Most people have probably seen some type of hartz products on the shelves at their grocery stores, and seen that it's not very expensive. Anything that claims to kill and repel fleas and ticks and is affordable is worth trying because a lot of products are very expensive and even those don't work good half the time. I tried hartz shampoo on my dog and cats who had fleas and it didn't kill very many fleas. There was fleas floating in the water and dead fleas throughout their hair but a large number of fleas were on my animals and appeared to be hanging on for dear life. The fleas that are holding on look dead but as the pet dries those fleas resume business as usual. I even left the shampoo on way longer then what they recommend. I also tried to get the hanger ons with a flea comb but it wasn't happening. I recommend not using this shampoo for flea control. It probably won't work and it is a waste of money for the sole purpose of killing fleas.

Got this to help with my dogs flea problem. It cleans well, doesn't smell too bad and keeps him dander free for a good while. But, it's pretty runny and hard to control, and didn't kill a single flea. You get what you pay for I guess. Side Effects None to speak of, even for his fleas :/

Ive used this several times over the spring/summer on all of my dogs. It kills some but not all of their fleas, and once they go outside for even a short time they have them right back....there is no long lasting protection like they promise.

I was amazed at the dead fleas washing off my dog when I used this shampoo the first time. Usually the cheaper shampoos are not a very good quality, but this one more than exceeded my expectations for the low price. Product was a bit thin coming out of the bottle but I will get 2 washes per bottle, which makes it cost effective. This shampoo even has oatmeal in it to soothe the constantly itching skin on my dog. I have a dog with a thick coat and this lathered up really well when I applied it.  Shampoo rinses off cleanly and leaves no residue behind with a mildly pleasant smell (much better than the normal wet dog odor after a bath). Dog's coat is very clean after use and his fur is fluffy. Bottle was a bit slippery when wet and the cap needs some help to latch when closing. I usually wash my dog every other week with this shampoo and also use advantage flea product and my dog stays pretty much flea free now.

my husband and i have been using Hartz UltraGuard Rid Flea and Tick Shampoo with Oatmeal for many years for our pets. we have had several different types of dogs and this shampoo seemed to work well for all of them. it does a good job of getting the dogs clean and it leaves them with a very clean smelling scent. The oatmeal in the product also does a very good job with soothing when my dog's skin is dry or is even irritated. the price of the product is very affrdable and i think it is a great value. just a small amount of the product can go along way. right now we have two great danes and even with their size the product seems to last a good while. i also love the container it comes in. very easy to store and easy to use too! i recommend this shampoo to any pet owner. it does a good job keeping dogs clean and the aspect of keeping fleas and ticks away is an added bonus that is a great idea with any dog.

**I was so excited to try  Hartz UltraGuard Rid Flea & Tick Shampoo with oatmeal but after I used it on my Shih tzu he broke out and was miserable. I have used other Hartz products and had no problem with them. I can only imagine that something in this formula was what broke my little uy out. **

I love using Hartz UltraGuard Rid Flea and Tick Shampoo with Oatmeal on my dog.  It is very inexpensive and works beautifully.  It recommends using it once a week, but I use it less often.  The oatmeal additive is very soothing when my dog's skin is dry or irritated.  If we notice any fleas we bath him in this right away and the fleas are gone!  This shampoo lathers very well and actually smells good which is hard to come by when talking about pet shampoos.  After my dog is dry his fur feels so soft, smooth and fluffy.  This stuff is amazing!  A few times I have noticed that my dog is itching a lot, mostly likely due to irritated skin.  One dip in the tub with this shampoo and his itchiness goes away!  I do wish that the results lasted longer than a week, but this is by far the best dog shampoo I have used.  How often do you see something that gets rid of ticks and fleas, cleans your dog, soothes his skin, and smells good?  Love it!
