25 years or so ago, I used to send H&D products to everyone in my family for Christmas. Finally, both my grandmother and mother-in-law let me know that the fruit was often very poor quality and sometimes already beginning to spoil. I stopped sending it to everyone, but sporadically, I'd send something to one of my kids. Then my son spoke up and told me to save my money as his basket arrived with very poor quality contents. My last attempt to use H&D (up until this year) was 12 years ago, I sent my sister a grand fruit basket and paid to have guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve, when we would be visiting her and her family that evening. We got there and they had gifts for us, but my basket for them hadn't arrived. I was so embarrassed. They finally received it around the 28th or 29th and it was filled with spoiled fruit. Yes, I called and complained and they sent another one out - but really, by then I couldn't have cared less about a replacement. Sadly, that was the last Christmas with my sister who died unexpectedly the next March. It's weird that I think so often of that Christmas and how disappointed I was. Anyway, fast forward: this year, I decide to send my daughter and her family a chocolate turkey from H&D for her Thanksgiving centerpiece. She lives in Bend, OR - not that far from Medford, where the company is located - can't really mess this up, can they? YES they can!! While the box itself was in perfect shape, the chocolate turkey was in pieces. Guess they can't pack well enough to ship locally, either. I am DONE DONE DONE for all time with Harry & David.

I received a box of dirt today, the writing on the outside of the box said "amaryllis". There was nothing inside the box but the bent up metal/plastic pot, with dirt and moss thrown all over the place. Harry & David customer service could have cared less, the rep blamed FedEx, I told her the US mail delivered it, she made sure I knew that with her being in customer service, she surely knows how FedEx, UPS and the post office damage their shipments. What a joke! Don't waste your money! Whom ever packaged this dirt wad in the H&D warehouse is the one who didn't package it properly for mailing!

These pears are a great gift! I would recommend them to anyone. Great for the "person who has everything" or the corporate gift that you need to send. I think that they are reasonably priced for the high quality fruit that you receive. Betcha can't have just one!!

This place has the best fruit I have every tasted. They grow these huge creamy pears and other fruit that is just the best. You can byu them at their stores or order them from the net. I wasn't sure it would be good by mail order but it wwas GREAT..The pears came really fast in a very sturdy box..each pear individually wrapped and in it's own little "case" with foam around it. Plus they have GREAT customers service..If you like fruit or know someone that does this is the place for You!

Save your money with this company.  They count on the majority of people NOT complaining about the poor quality fruits, confections they ship out.  I have worked in several corporations that would NEVER send another Harry and David item for lack of a better word, the "insult" they deliver each year.  I have personally had to request people never send them again due to the dissapointment and simply having to throw out most of what was received.  Oh, they will tell you how sorry they are and that they will immediately ship out another of whatever was rotted, moldy, melted, or just plain old.  We came to our realization that Harry & David's modus operandi is to count on the majority of the public simply accepting the swill they send (no matter how offensive,) and just saying thanks. There are plenty of companies that would be happy for your business.  We have found several that are less expensive and actually use Quality Control.  Harry & David rely on a reputation that was once shining, but for about the last 7 or so years has been simply an example of what not to do.  Save your hard earned money on a gift that will not most likely find it's way into the trash upon receipt.

You really can't go wrong with Harry and David pears...if you can afford them.  I noticed that the shipping and handling costs seemed more reasonable this past Christmas.  Before, that was a rip-off aspect of ordering from H&D.   H&D pears arrive ready to ripen.  Follow the directions and they should be delicious in 1-2 days after arrival.  If you get a big box, keep it in a cool place and take out a couple at a time to ripen.  I have been guilty of letting them go bad by not following the directions.

Harry and David fruit arrives hard and unripe. Never fully sweetens and then there is a short period before it's mushy... substandard at best. And very expensive. Aggressive and rude customer service when I called to question the ripeness. Harry and David is all hype in my view. Never again.
