Haier Portable Air Conditioner

Would pass on this next time

I like the overall concept of owning a portable AC unit. However, I failed to think this unit was any in comparison to my 11,000 BTU window unit. It failed to cool my living room, even while using my main household system. It was bulky and I didn't find it easy to move around. I think I will stick to using the standard window units in the future.

Good for smaller spaces. Pretty big for the output though!

The Haier CPN12XH9 Portable Air Conditioner not only provides a powerful 12,000 BTU cooling capacity, but can also provide an 11,000 BTU heating capacity. I ordered this online, and was surprised at how big it was. However, it is pretty modern looking and features a nice black and silver design. We liked that it is uses an earth-friendly refrigerant. One drawback was the window kit. It was pretty chintzy. My husband actually had to make a new one, because it didn't fit very well in our window. There are three speed settings that are nice, and the airflow is adjustable. We haven't used the timer yet, but it does come with one. It cools our 3 bedrooms (probably 800 square feet) pretty well. We close them off from the rest of the house and turn on the Haier. We did have some trouble initially with the tube falling out of the back of the unit, but we just make sure we watch it and it's attached really well and it's been OK.

Big and bulky, but a powerhouse and well worth the cost.

The unit is portable in the sence that you don't mount it permanently anywhere in your house.  But it is so big that once you schlep it up some steps and position it, I don't think you're going to want to move it anywhere else.  The wheels work but not very well on a carpet. It came with all the parts to mount it in the window.  The little sliding plastic mount and the intake and exhaust hoses.  It was easy to put together, but I don't thing this area we have very good quality.  The plastic mount was very flimsy, and the screws holding it open are a joke.  I'm sure this is going to be getting some duct tape in the future, or a complete new window mount.  Overall though, it was easy to install.  It was hard to get out of the box, but once it was out everything else was easy.  The hoses are long enough that it can be mounted vertically or horizontally into just about any window.  I didn't like the fact that it came with nothing to help seal the ventilation mounting bracket in place. Just snap everything in place and plug it in. Where this thing gets such a high rating is how well it works. Where this thing shines in my opinion is in its performance. It pumps out the cold air like it is going out of style.  Our main room 15 by 25 and it easily cooled it down in just a few minutes.  It had variable speeds as well. It is a bit loud, but what do you expect?!  When I say loud, I do mean loud though.  For me this isn't an issue, because with something blowing all those cool BTU's at me, I don't care if I have to wear ear plugs. The remote is very cool.  It mounts flush to the front, but can easily be removed. The controls were straight forward and relatively easy to use.  It has multi function and also a timer.  Just about everything one could ask for in an AC. Overall it was a great performer, and will cool our 900 square foot house with ease.  We have not used the dehumidifier feature yet, but it looks promising.
