When it works the quality is good. However, getting the darn thing to work most of the time is a pain. Lots of error messages, lots of printer status saying the document is printing but it is not, lots of messages saying the printer is disconnected or offline when it is not. I am disappointed in the product as I paid a lot of money for it, and it is unreliable. Also, it is loud and moves a lot when it prints. It also prints somewhat slow. The ink cartridges run out quickly and are super expensive. Overall, I would not recommend this product. - Disappointed.

I received the Hewlett Packard HP J6400 Printer as a gift a few months ago. For the most part I like the printer. You can print, scan, make copies, fax, and more. Most functions can be accessed right at the printer or on your computer with the software installed. Since receiving the printer, I have upgraded my computer and now run Windows 7. The software packed with the printer apparently is not compatible with Windows 7. I figured no problem because I can download the software and drivers from the HP website. i was very wrong. I can download, but I can not get it installed correctly after multiple tries. I enjoyed using the HP Solution Center and have never gotten that part installed again. Because of the install problems I am not able to use the scan functions from my computer. Also, I will have the printer working and use it with no problems but then numerous times the software just stops working and I have to un-install the software, go download again and re-install. This can be time consuming and I would really love to be able to use the printer and all of it's functions without the constant battles with the software.

When we considered this purchase, we initally were looking for a scanner.  When we went looking for a high quality scanner we found there really wasn't a good selection.  There were a number of all in one printers that were reasonable priced.  We tested several and read the reviews.  We liked our hp deskjet 6540 and wanted to stick with hp for quality and satisfaction.  WE found that this scanner is slow, and I mean really slow.  To run through a stack of 30 pages which I believe is the maximum it can take up to an hour.  This was not realistic for our needs.  The ink also runs out quickly.  Our deskjet 6540 we average about about 2 times a year replacing the cartridges.  In the first two months of using the Officejet 6500 we were already receiving warning signals that they were low.  So instead of using the officejet as a printer, we just use it as a copier, scanner, or fax and try not to use as a printer.  The product is also very large The pros to this product is that it never jams.  It is realively quiet, and prints quickly. It is capable of printing on different papers (very small) easily and so it is versatile as for different projects (cards, envelopes, pictures, recipes)

We purchased out J6400 All-in-One Printer about a year ago. My favorite part of this print is the wireless function. Having switching to a wireless printer/scanner I don't think I would like going back to a wired one. The print functions are good and I like the choices of print quality to choose from. The printer does not seem to use too much ink or run out of ink quickly  I definitely like the fact of having a separate cartridge for color & black & white. The printer is fast, even faster if you use the "fast draft" I believe it is called function. The scanner typically works well for us also. I like the fact you can use the auto feed function for multiple pages even with the scanner. I am not sure if other scanners have this but I like the fact that multiple pages or pictrues scanned can be saved in one file for each page or all of the pages in one file. We have not used the fax functions or even set up the ability to fax with the J6400 All-In-One Printer. We do not have a big need for faxing so it has not been a priority for us. In my opinion, a great product at an affordable price.

I love my HP Officejet J6400 All-in-One Printer!  This printer does it all!   Of course it prints.  And it prints very fast and very quietly.  Then, it copies, I use it all the time to copy my Kindergartner's homework because my 5 yr old wants to have homework as well.  It scans, I use the scan feature all the time.  I love to scan important documents and save it onto my hard-drive so that I have it close at hand.  It faxes as well, what a great feature no more running to the local copy center for me.   Plus, it's wireless.   My husband can use the same printer as me and his computer is across the room and not hooked up to mine.  I have never had any problems at all with this printer.  I love that it only takes two ink cartridges.  I don't have to buy one of each color.  I also haven't had many paper jams at all.  I have used all types of paper and all types of thickness papers with no problems.  I highly recommend this printer.
