This Goodman is a good performer, how ever the installer neglected to level the furnace. Over time water from the exhaust would run back into the fan body and into the adjoining framework and has caused at lot of rust internally. Part of the issue is a design flaw in that the water drain tube does not come off the fan low enough to prevent water backing up into the fan.

Great furnace

I have owned this furnace for several years , it is very quiet and has saved me money on my gas bill. I have read reviews from others and I think they have installed it them self or hired the lowest bidder. never had any problems. thank you goodman for making my house comfortable.

Wouldn't trust a Goodman furnace ever again!!!!!

We switched from oil to natural gas in 1996 and the contractor told us that the Goodman high efficiency was a great furnace.  They sold them to several homes that were switching over in our town.  Within the first year, the furnace was breaking down during the coldest months.  There was a hose that would trap water and cause the furnace to kick off, usually during the night. We would have to go to the furnace and blow the water out of the tube and the furnace would start back up.  By December 1999, we had to replace the heat exchanger as it was on recall due to it cracking. It broke down on New Year's Eve and because of the crack, the gas company had to shut down the furnace for a week until the new exchanger was replaced.  We had to use micro furnaces to heat the house to prevent the pipes from freezing.  Every year after, during the coldest months, we had to have the furnace serviced for different parts that broke down. We spent more time and money repairing it than we should have.  In December 2004, the heat exchanger went again. We had enough and bought a new Trane furnace.  I found out later from talking to other community members that we were not the only ones to have issues with the Goodman furnace.  We all had to have them replaced.  I tried contacting the company but they said I would have to prove that these issues took place. Our Trane furnace has given us nothing but warmth and comfort and have had no trouble with it at all.  Big thumbs down on Goodman high effeciency furnaces!

won't let you print out extended warrantee

I just bought a Goodman furnace yesterday. You need to fill out the registration online to receive Goodman's extended warranty, which my installers strongly urged.  When I did, giving my serial #, etc., their website created an error when I tried to print out the verification.  I had just printed a document so I knew my printer was working fine.  I called Gooman.  I could not reach a human (of course).  I went back to their website to try to bring forth the page that showed my registration and could not.  I'm wondering if this is a SCAM to get my personal info so they can bombard me with ads.

5 years old and never an issue. Great furnace!

I agree the installation is key. Our contractor that installed our Goodman GMH95 assured us it would perform flawlessly if installed properly, and he was right. In five years, other than our annual scheduled maintenance, we have not had to call him out for any problems at all. The furnace heats our home efficiently and superbly comfortably. We couldn't be more pleased. By the way, one of our neighbors had the same furnace installed by another contractor who was the lowest bidder. They had several issues with the furnace, and the installing contractor went out of business within a year. Turns out they weren't even licensed and never even obtained the required permit for the installation. The furnace wasn't installed correctly, which caused the problems in the first place. Well, the contractor WE hired corrected the installation mistakes the other company had made, and their furnace has worked just fine ever since.   Just goes to show you that the old cliche "you get what you pay for" is absolutely true!

Fair but Advise to Consider Others

I would agree that the contractor is just as if not more important that the brand selected.  The concern with the Goodman brand is that it tends to be available for sale to just about anyone.  Accordingly, less skilled (and often less honest/reputable) contractors tend to offer this brand as they don't have to comply with the standards of some better known brands.  Historically we have not been happy with the performance of Goodman (aka Amana, Janitrol) but every brand has a blemish in its history.  We still find their units to contain fewer features than competing brands.  Regardless of the brand you select please be sure to change those filters on a regular basis!!!

enjoying the benefits of high efficiency already

This furnace was an emergency replacement for a very old low efficiency gas furnace. It was installed 3 months ago. We've been warm & cozy ever since, no complaints.  We're quite pleased with the savings on our gas bill & feel very good about our envirnmentally sound choice.
