Great little unit although its a little older

5

I truly enjoy this gps unit. I often take it with me when I dont know exactly where I'm going. It has never let me down as far as getting me where I need to go. This unit isnt the newest from garmin & doesnt have the lane designation that the newer ones have, however it does let you know in plenty enough time when you need to exit a highway or whatever so you know to get over to the appropriate lane. It also has bluetooth & an sd card reader. I dont use either of them very much however if you wanted to listen to your own content, answer your phone etc you can do it with this unit. You can easily purchase the lifetime garmin maps so that you can always have the newest garmin map updates on the unit & that way you know your maps are current. Thus you can take a unit that is very inexpensive to buy now is basically a great way to get into a navigation unit that does what you want it to practically out of the box. Processing Speed doesnt hesitate when i enter places to go at all. a little hesitation on the points of interest as it searches it database for those but only a few seconds nothing to worry about Map Quality & Accuracy I never really have a problem with the maps as long as they are updated, the arrival times are also very accurate as well. it helps keep you on track for time if you are supposed to be somewhere by a certain time. Ease of Use Too easy to use, just touch the screen to tell it what you want to do, garmin has always been pretty simple that way, with large icons that are easy to see.

Will help you out in a bind

I'll preface this by saying that I'm terrible with directions. I'm a visual person, so if the only cues I have are street names, I get lost. I received this GPS as a gift primarily for that reason and there have been many times when it's come to my rescue; however, this is not the ideal roadtrip companion for the directionally challenged. You can occasionally just program a destination and arrive there without a problem, but most of the time you need to at least have a vague understanding of the directions. For small roads, the GPS often doesn't tell you to turn until after you've passed them. If you're on an interstate with overpasses, underpasses, or nearby sideroads, it can get confused about which road you're on. If you're good with directions and not prone to panicking when you get lost, this GPS will probably be okay for you, but if you're like me, you will have at least one small panic attack where you realize that neither you nor the GPS knows where you are and you should've just printed out a map. There's a nice feature where you can tap the screen and see written directions and there is a zoom option, although the map itself is impossible to read. I've had this GPS for 4 years and only recently discovered the language dictionary, calculator, and currency conversion features, but those seem very handy for serious travelers. There's also an MP3 and audiobook feature. Processing Speed It takes a while to figure out where you are and it can also take some time to recalculate a route. Map Quality & Accuracy The map is very difficult to read and the GPS sometimes becomes confused about where you are. Ease of Use It can get frustrating when you accidentally end up switching screens and you were just trying to zoom in.

great routing system. never get lost again

I purchased the Garmin Nuvi 650 Portable GPS for my husband who is a local semi truck driver. He tends to stay in the city and surrounding suburbs, and with all the construction he asked that i get him something that can help him make his routes easier. When i brought the Garmin home to my husband, he immedietly started to try it out. He was suprised to see how easy it was to use and program. The touch screen was large enough to see a good map, and the updates were loaded with rerouted, construction, as well as speed limits and weight limits on specific streets. My husband stated that the actually routing system was also great. The gps took him on the easiest routes possible, avoiding side streets and also having the options available to avoid highways and also tollways. Basically you tell the gps how you want to get somewhere along with the address of where you want to go, and its going to get you there in the least amount of time. There is very little issues with rerouting as i have seen with other similar gps systems. I would reccommend this product to anyone who is in the market for a GPS for their car.

A great GPS! Easy to use!

Very easy to use! Step by step directions make not looking at the screen while driving easy to accomplish. I like to have an visual of the path that I'm taking before I venture off, so the ability to zoom out is a great help, as well as having the directions listed for easy reading. Processing Speed Sometimes takes awhile before it recognizes where we are when we start out. After that, any recalculating need goes quickly and smoothly. Map Quality & Accuracy We had on instance right after we got ours that the GPS told us to go through an intersection and make a right to go all the way around the block when all we needed to do was just turn left at the intersection where we were. Ease of Use It's simple, straightforward design makes it a breeze to use! I love that it tells you how much farther you need to go before you turn. Then, it tells you the direction and the name of the street, so there is little need to look at the screen at all!

Good maps, bad battery

3

We purchased this Garmin many years ago. It is a nice small little portable GPS unit. The maps on this unit are still pretty accurate and it is quite simple (although a bit expensive) to update it if desired. The features on this unit are nice. The voice is pleasant to listen to as it gives directions and can be easily changed to a different voice too. The map is clear and the directions are accurate. I wish there were a way to add many stops to the directions, but probably the newer models have that feature. My biggest gripe with this unit is one that I have heard from many people. The unit worked well...for a while. Now the battery does not hold its charge more than seconds and it must always be plugged in to work. That makes it a very non-portable GPS unit. Processing Speed reasonable speed but a bit outdated Map Quality & Accuracy very good Ease of Use quite intuitive

I love my Nuvi650, it's really easy to use.

I am a real estate agent, so the Nuvi650 came in handy.  The instruction was really easy to follow, so setup was a snap.   I have received more recommendation for the Nuvi than any other GPS I was considering, and I think I made the right decision in purchasing one.  I have not had a chance to update my map, it seemed very simple to do when I visited the Garmin website. I use just about all the features the Nuvi650 has to offer.  I downloaded songs in the MP3 Player and listen to them when I have bad radio reception.  Downloaded pictures into the picture viewer, and use it like an electronic photo album, although, I'd like more internal storage space, so I can download more pictures and songs.  The search function for shops and restuarants is great, it save me time looking when I am out with clients.  Inputting the addresses I am visiting doesn't take much time at all, if I am showing multiple properties, I input them before I meet my client, then follow the order according to distant show on the Nuvi650, save lots of time and I don't get lost :-). The picture below is my unit, I'd downloaded my dog Maxine's picture and use it as my cover, so everytime I turn on the unit, her picture show up, makes a great conversation piece.

I absolutely love this product. This is the first gps that I've ever owned, and it has simply been extremely useful in navigating from place to place. I used to have to look up maps on google anytime I went anywhere. Now I just plug in the address, or even just the name of the place I want to find, and go. There are a few negative things that I would point out, though. First, it often does not take you the most direct route. I suggest that you always zoom out and look at the route that it wants to take you, because you might be surprised that there is sometimes a more direct route that you can plainly see on the map. Second, it sometimes takes a few minutes to acquire the satellites to determine your current location, especially when you're moving. Third, it would be helpful if the business locations that you can look up were more complete. It doesn't always have the place I'm looking for in there. Now, keep in mind that I live in a small town, so some of these things may be due to that fact. Despite these drawbacks, I've found this to be an extremely useful tool, and is definitely worth every penny we paid for it. P.S: This model sometimes has issues with its touchscreen becoming unresponsive. I've found that if this happens, all you have to to do it recalibrate the touchscreen and it will start working again.

Garmin is the best GPS out there!

I absolutely love our Garmin nuvi - best purchase I've made in a long time and it's been a life save and a time saver!  I love being able ot listen to my own MP3s as we drive, AND we can still have the directions spoken to us.  It just pauses the music, says where we need to go, then resumes play on the music again!  Love it so much!

How did we get somewhere without a Garmin

4

All thoughs years when we would be driving around with a paper map and had o stop for directions and still got lost.  Now you have no worries because the Garmin is in everyones car or truck and they can get you to he other side of town or the other side of the state. So what do we say to map quest and google who use to get us some where and now we dont have to worry because we have are own little computer talking to us and leading us there the rest of the way.  Its are extra little passagenger that will give us the short cut and get us out of traffic and also get us out of paying for thoughs tolls that we so hate to pay for.  So again I ask where my little best friend where have you been all these years and how in the world did we make it in the world of traveling with out you for so long.  I never did like driving out of town because I never new where I was going. Now I am willing to drive in bigger towns and I don't have to tell my husband that he has to drive because I don't know where I'm going.

Best gift I ever received!

5

My better half got me this for Christmas, and boy what a gift! I had the older type non touch screen, and this is a thousand times better! Not only is it easy to find an address and navigate there, but does an exceptional job of getting you to restaurants, stores, and other consumer goods! It even works in the Boonies, when I'm hunting or out photographing wildlife and loose my direction. Highly recommend thie Garmin Nuvi650!
