Garmin GPS running watch

5

I love this watch! It keeps track of my mileage, distance, speed, etc! I use it daily to monitory my distance while I am training for marathons and half-marathons. I also track my speed and can monitor my pace. It tells me if I am on-pace, ahead of pace or behind pace. I can hook it up to the computer and download my data for analysis. It is very easy to charge by plugging into any wall unit. There is also a bezel lock feature so that I don't accidentally bump or change the controls while working out. This is very helpful in the rain. There is an auto-pause feature which will pause the timer when you stop and resume upon starting. This is great for running in a city when you must cross streets or approach a red-light.

You won't need another watch for hiking or running

After one month of using this watch, I am pleased to say that I won't need another watch until technology makes a huge leap. This watch is very precise and shows very little variation in GPS coordinates. I have ran the same trail several times and the GPS feature works great and speed/time is calculated very precise as well. The watch is comfortable to the touch and really easy to navigate within the menu and settings. You might expect the watch to be large and cheap feeling but Garmin has done an excellent job in making it this product worth my money. It is durable and beads off the sweat. I recommend this product to runners as well as hikers.

Works well for my runs

My husband bought this for my runs. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it since I hadn't picked it out myself. However, it has worked great and I love using it when I run to keep track of everything. It's great that it fits on my wrist and is lightweight so I don't notice it when on a run. This is definitely a product I would recommend to other runners.

My husband just suprised me with the garmin 405!!!  I am so excited.  I have been jealous of all my friend that have one for so long.  I think my husband just got tired of me talking about it all the time.  My friends and aunt have been using theirs for a long time now and really love it.  I am really excited about the 405 model, over some of the previous ones (305, etc.).  While it is still fairly large on your wrist, it is nothing like the older models.  The GPS is a lot more sensative and the auto sync function is phenomenal.  I can't wait to get deeper into using mine.  I have heard my friends talk about all the great features for so long, I feel like I have had mine forever. I can't wait to try it out in a race.  Being able to see my splits for the whole course, as well as elevation lost and gained will be facinating and informative.  I am soooooo glad my husband got me this.  I love the spicey green color as well.  No complaints here!!!

Not the best in price versus performance equation

Garmin Forerunner 405 - as a first time user of a GPS-enabled running watch, I really enjoyed the ability to have real time pace data available to me on my runs, and to track and compare my performance over time.  The form factor is much improved from the previous versions of Garmin sports watches, it looks and feels like a real watch.   What I like: - Nice shape and user interface, much smaller size than other GPS sports watches - Real time pace data makes a big difference for someone who likes to run alone, it keeps me motivated with real time feedback - Instead of mapping out my route beforehand, I can just run and track my mileage real time - Recording of training runs on the watch, I can do comparisons easily What I didn't like: - Depending on weather and location, can take a while to locate satellite signal - Will lose satellite signal when running in tree-lined streets, or streets with tall buildings - Battery life is worse than an IPOD, have to be diligent about recharging if you train a lot - Could not get the software to work properly on my PC.  No useful documentation or support for software problems on Garmin site Net net: - For the price I paid, I expected better feature performance and support

Okay but not for triathletes

Garmin Forerunner 405 -- was hoping for great things from this to help with triathlon training.  Summary -- not a good buy for serious triathletes; fun training aid for short distances. Details:  Battery life of less than 8-10 hours will not cover long distances.  Particularly annoying for 2-day events or long days when it cuts out in the middle.  In addition, it does not take "regular" batteries to enable you to pack a spare. Difficult to change profiles from biking->running on the fly. Heart rate monitor:  nice size numbers/details on the face.

I don't think I'd be nearly as active without my Garmin 405.

After having my second baby I felt I needed to get back into a more active routine. I bought this watch after researching heartrate monitors and found it on sale for a price not much higher that a heart rate monitor without GPS. Some compain that the watch is big, but I have pretty tiny wrist and I feel just fine with it. I bought the green one and it is really pretty. My husband now has the black one. I even wear the watch into the gym and use it for group fitness classes and it doesn't get in the way. I love having this watch. The garmin connect website could be a little more exciting and I wish I had an ap for it on my android phone, but overall I think the ease of its use and the way it very easily tracks my running keeps me motivated to work out and add things to my "activities" A few negatives... It s not waterproof so it makes me nervous in the rain and near water. I also wish that the battery life was longer.

Great training watch

I bought my forerunner a little less than a year ago right before my second marathon. I did not have enought time to totally play around with it so the begining of the marathon I was a little confused on how to get it going all the way. During the race it was rainy, but not a terrible down pour the whole time. I was worried it would not survive the rain but it did and I was very happy about that, for that price it better hold up in the rain. A few weeks ago I ran nad it was a little below zero and the watch still help up! At first I was just using the virtual trainner, I thought it was neat having a little man on the screen telling me how far or behind i was from my goal pace. But, once I figured out how to have my pace time and distance all on one screen it was soo much better. I like how you can have multiple things on one screen and then it can have multiple screens. On mine I have one with the total time, pace and milage, the next one has how many laps and heart rate, the last one has the time of day. It is neat how you can use the heart rate monitor and see everything on the watch. Overall this is agreat product and I would reccomend this to a runner who would like to know their pace and distance while you are actually running.

Garmin Forerunner is a quality device

The Garmin Forerunner 405 is a device that after learning how to use it, has ended up being a a fantastic tool in improving my running.  the 405 makes it easy to track not only distance, but speed, heart rate, cadence, and workout history.  The 405 allows the user to create advanced workouts where you can create personalized workouts using information like how far you'd like to run, notifying you when you drop below specified speeds, keeping you in a target heart rate zone, and timed runs.  It's also capable of using the ANT + technology which means wirelessly transferring your work out data from the 405 to your computer.  Making it easy to use and really convenient.  Once the data is uploaded you can choose to view it two different ways.  You can publish it to garmin.com where you create a profile and access that information from any computer that has internet access, or you can download the Garmin Training Center software, which allows you offline access to your workout history.  Either way you are able to track progress.  The 405 has a rechargable battery which also makes it worth the money.  It uses GPS to track outside runs and to calibrate.  However if you'd prefer you can couple it with a foot pod for indoor use. Either way, I have been extremely happy with the accuracy.

Garmin Forerunner 405 - A great training companion

4

My wife bought this watch for me 2 years ago for Christmas and it was been a huge help with my training.  I'm the type of runner that always wants to know exactly how far I went and how fast I did it in.  Previously, I would resort to driving the route in my car to see how far or trying to map the route using Google Maps.  Sometimes I would use the distance labeled on trail maps and then wonder how accurate they were when my time indicated that I was either really fast or the course was really short.  This watch has solved all of those problems. I love to get done with my run and upload my run data to Runningahead.com.  From there I can analyze my splits and see how the run went.  Another great feature of the watch is the running buddy that will help you buy telling you how far ahead or behind you are for your target pace.  I also like that you can program your workout with the Garmin Training Center software and the watch will automatically tell you what to do for the next part of your workout. On rare occasions, I've also used the GPS on the watch as a safety feature.  You can have the watch memorize your current GPS location and if you get lost, it will tell you what direction to travel in to get back to your start point. My only complaint with the watch is that the touch bezel can be a bit sensitive to sweat.  I lock the bezel and only unlock it to switch screens when I run.
