Recently renovated my kitchen and didn't want appliances to take up cabinet so debated whether or not to get a dishwasher finally decided to buy one and ended up with this GE spacesaver dishwasher the best decision I could have made does not take up much room and does an excellent job cleaning dishes

My kitchen is tiny--7ft x 7ft. So when I squeezed in a dishwasher during the remodel, it had to be one of these smaller 18" ones, not the larger 24". From reviews I had read of GE dishwashers, I wasn't convinced that a GE dishwasher would be my first choice in a perfect world, but there aren't alot of models available when you go to the smaller size, and even fewer that are affordable for the average Joe! Among those limited options, this GE Profile PDW1800NWW seemed the best for the money. And, after almost two years of use, I have been pleased with my decision. It's not perfect, but I have no major complaints. It runs smoothly and gets the dishes clean--and that's what matters! I use Cascade Powder Detergent, and have never found rinse aid necessary. I'll point out that I live alone, and so have fewer dishes, so I only run it about once a week. That is one up-side to a small dishwasher: If you live alone, it can take a while to fill up even a small dishwasher! Two years in, I've had no major problems or repair needs; it's held up well. There is a fleck of paint that chipped off the handle somewhere along the way, but it's not a huge issue (and if the chip ever seems to be growing bigger, I will immediately get a bottle of that appliance repair paint and fill it in; I feel sure that would take care of it). The design of the front panel and handle and having the controls hidden on top of the door does make for an attractive, sleek appliance. (Especially nice in a small space which can easily start to feel "cluttered"-lots of visible knobs and buttons would certainly add to the visual clutter.) I do wish there was some way you could see the countdown while the machine is running. It's on the top of the door, under the countertop overhang, so when the door is closed...you can't see it! But, it does tell you at the beginning how long the cycle will take, and I've found that to be accurate to the minute, so just check the clock when you start it, and you'll know. I haven't used a lot of the different cycles-I stick with the air-dry cycle. It's always gotten the job done for me. And it's the shortest (50 minutes), so I figure it uses the least energy. (When it beeps to let me know it's done, I just crack the door to let the steam out, and then come back in a couple hours and the dishes are dry-for free! No need to pay for hot air.) I also have never used the "delay start" feature. I figure why waste energy having it stay on to count down? The cycle only takes 50 minutes and I'm home a lot, so I just load it, sometimes I even go ahead and fill the detergent dispenser, and then when I want it to run, I just go into the kitchen, turn it on, choose the setting, and close the door. (Once you've turned it on and chosen a setting, closing the door is the equivalent of pressing the start button.) It's not the loudest dishwasher ever, but not the quietest either. (I knew that going in-you can look up the decibel levels of various dishwashers to compare.) If I decide to watch TV in the next room while it's running, I often close the door to the kitchen, and then I can hear the TV at a normal level just fine. You could certainly have a conversation in the same room as the dishwasher while it's running. I'll point out that the 18" is not just the 24" model shrunken down. If you have a 24" and think it's great, you won't necessarily think that of this one. And just because I'm not in love with this 18", I wouldn't rule out the 24". When I bought the appliance, the store had a 24" model I could look at and touch on the floor. The 18" is definitely a lesser quality than the 24". I wouldn't be surprised if the 24" was quieter. The quality and design of the racks is one area where GE skimped on the 18". The racks don't glide "like butter," but it's not a problem. The racks are not the best sizes and shapes...but I guess they have limited options on these smaller size dishwashers. But I've gotten used to it and hardly think about it anymore. The left side of the top rack is pretty much useless-I rarely have something that will fit there once I have the bowls in place. Other than that, it works well for me. I can fit in 8 big dinner plates, 7 or 8 soup/cereal bowls, 7 or 8 dessert bowls, 6 or 7 bread and butter plates, and 6 glasses, plus plenty of silverware in the basket. I handwash everything else-pots, pans, measuring cups, large knives, anything with a wooden or stainless handle, etc.-anyway. (My plates and bowls are the very common Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White.) (I have the white one, but I can only find Stainless and Black on Viewpoints-why, oh why, are they split by colors-the machine will work the same no matter what color it is on the outside! If you're researching appliances, make sure you check for reviews of the same model in other colors-they might be split up, but it's all the same thing!) Cleaning Time My favorite cycle is only fifty minutes! Loading Flexibility "Poor" sounds a little harsh, I wish there was an option for "ok." The size of the dishwasher itself limits the loading flexibility, but you get used to it.

Having owned Kitchen Aid dishwashers in the past and having been very satisfied with them, I was apprehensive when I bought a GE Profile.  I needed a large built in model and Kiitchen Aid (Hobart) was no longer making them. The model I own has many different wash and rinsing cycles and has  means to restart the machine without having the entire cycle run.  The machine has a sani cycle that provides an extra security when washing baby items or those of an ill person.  It also has a water heater that will provide an extra boost of heated water without my having to turn up the entire hot water heater's temperature. The machine is unusally quiet.  My husband actually asked me to run the machine when it was already running.  I am able to actually use my kitchen and the phone without the noise that usually accompanies dish washer use. My machine is over 7 years old and has not had one single problem.  That is a big plus.  Noise Level The first itme I ran the dishwasher, my husband asked me why I hadn't run the dishes! He didn't hear it! Cleaning Time I love having choices on the tyoes of cleaning: quick, sanld etc.icycle, h Loading Flexibility I wish the top rack had both sides the same to hold my stem glasses Performance I have had my dishwasher for 9 years without a single problem Design I have the modle that allows me to put on a front panel that matches my cabinets. It make my kitchen look beautiful. Durability 9 yeasr and never a single service call.

You know, I wish I could say that I love my GE appliances. And I can live with the refrigerator and my ceramic GE profile cooktop. Both work relatively well and haven't had much trouble. But man, GE does not make a dishwasher worth a dime. This dishwasher, when we bought it, we paid a lot of money for, and we "splurged" because we wanted to make sure that the appliances were all the same brand. With GE, unfortunately, you get what you pay for--and even when you pay a lot of money, like we did, you don't get a whole lot--other than a very clean look if you have stainless steel (like we do) because we didn't want the controls on the front of the dishwasher--this particular dishwasher has the controls at the top of the door. The first problem this dishwasher had was that it didn't clean dishes well. I constantly asked my husband to please rinse his dishes when he was done eating. You won't get clean dishes with this dishwasher--no matter what you do. It had a variety of cycles and options for the wash, such as added heat, pre-wash, heated dry, pots and pots, china and crystal, plastics, rinse only, etc. Within months, it began leaking (and when it wasn't leaking, it was leaving water pooled at the bottom of the dishwasher interior--and if you forgot to check/empty the dishwasher and it had pooled water?? Honey, the next day, the thing would stink to high heaven. I cannot tell you that we had to vacuum out the water with our wet-vac for my husband (an engineer) to take a look at it. Well, he finally got it working. We plugged it again. It worked again, for a little while, before it leaked again. Last straw came the other night (I usually run my dishwasher at night so that it doesn't disturb anyone) and the damned thing smelled of smoke. I opened it, I saw steam, but not smoke, but nonetheless, I could tell the dishwasher was the source. When my husband woke up a few hours later, he asked me what had burned. I told him that I thought the dishwasher had died, I had forced it to empty and had unplugged it. He was surprised but didn't question me, until a day or two later, when he asked me what the machine had done. I told him I smelled something like a fire, but since I didn't see any smoke (and the machine had been running) I had taken the time to drain it, unplug it and empty it (and finish washing my dishes by hand). He proceeded to re-plug it and attempted to run a 4 minute rinse only cycle. He called out and said: "Oh, honey, the computer on this thing is fried--it blew smoke right out of where the door latch is." And the heating element is completely coated in something--not sure if it's part of the issue of why it "fried" the other morning, but it's a horrible little dishwasher, overall. So that's what you get when you buy GE. You get junk. So if you like to waste your money, go ahead. If you'd rather have something that lasts, buy Samsung, buy Amana. We're getting Samsung appliances.

This is a great little dishwasher. I got it in black and because I did not have a good option to put in a 24" dishwasher in my kitchen without destroying alot of the existing cabinets, I chose this one. It is smaller yes, but I can get alot in it, and the nice thing is I do not dread unloading it because there are fewer things in it than the 24" one. Does a very good job cleaning and there are lots of energy saving options.

For the last 15 years the only thing I ever wanted for all the holidays was a dishwasher. This year my hubby came through. One of the reason it took so long was because they didn't have a smaller dishwasher. The only one we could get was the 24 inch. Well now they came out with a GE 18 inch that fits perfectly in my kitchen. This dishwasher works really well. It wash's everything just like a 24 inch it's just a little smaller. You cannot put as much dishes in and not any really big pots but it does do the job for the 2 of us. In fact I would say its perfect for 2 people. It runs very quiet and gets my dishes really clean. It has two sprayers and they really do clean up messy stuff. I have already put in stuck on food on dishes and pot and pans and every time they have come out clean. It was very easy to install. Thank you GE for coming out with this one dishwasher. We looked around locally and not one of the stores in our area said a thing about the smaller dishwasher. They all knew we couldn't use the bigger one as we have no room in our kitchen.The only reason we found this was a search on the internet. I think all stores should be made away of the smaller dishwashers. I think they would sell more if people knew about them. A lot of people don't have the room in their kitchens and  like me didnt want to redo the whole kitchen. Also it cost the same amount of money as a bigger one in fact maybe a little more but well worth it when the only reason I haven't had one all these years if because we didn't know they had a smaller one. Thanks again GE I LOVE MY DISHWASHER.

I bought this GE dishwasher 3 months ago, this is the affordable dishwasher which has all good features in retainability and washing system.  I started using vigourously and I am very comfortable with it ,also , GE customer service is very good and prompt in case of any questions . Th emos timportant factor is the power consumption factor, it is consuming very less power  and also the water,  it is not wasting much water and cleaning the utensils very nicely, the cabin inside is also very nice with enough space for large bowls. I think these are the factors that we mainly look at before purchasing kitchen elctric appliances  , this meets almost all he requirements ,  the only thing why I did not give 5 is, the cabonets are little sensitive, we need tp handle it with little care.

This would have been an awesome gift, but this particular GE Profile Dishwasher is terrible, at least mine is - it doesn't clean well at all!  I always end up scrubbing 1/3 of the dishes again!  I don't want to buy another one since this one isn't "broken", so I end up manually doing the dishes almost all the time!  :(

We replaced the dishwasher that came with the house about three years ago.  Until then, I didn't know a dishwasher could be so quiet that I didn't have to wait to go to bed to turn it on.  We have an open kitchen plan that leads to the TV room and we can now hear the TV when the dishwasher is on.
