Great card.

I have been mostly against store credit cards for most of my adult kife, however in the last couple of years I have started trying to build up my credit, and I got a GE Gap Card to help me do do so. I was a little apprehensive when I started researching this card before getting it. But it turns out there was no reason to fret. The card is so much more than I had hoped. It's super easy to understand the terms and when I had questions about it, the customer people were more than helpful. The interest rate is actually pretty comparable to others that I looked at, and that I have used. I also like that because Gap is part of a family of companies the card can be used at additional stores within the Gap family. I also had no trouble keeping up with the paynents, they offer some pretty good options. Overall it's a really great card, especially if you are a frequent shopper of the Gap brand stores or like me you are trying to build up credit. I would for sure reccommend this card to friends..

Not the best card

The Gap card is a great card if you shop at the Gap a LOT but it really isn't worth it if you're an occasional shopper there. I was lured in by an employee with the attractive one-time bonus discount but having it was really more of a burden than an actual benefit. The interest rates are high so if you plan on carrying a balance it would be better to do it on a different card. They also have a very archaic method of paying off your credit card and it is a big hassle to have to do it in a store or through a third party over the phone. There is an online system now but it takes forever and it won't show you your actual current balance to pay off. The rewards they send you are nice but have to be used quickly or they will expire. This is the same for their birthday gift card they send you. If you do choose to open up this card be sure to find out when the discounts are better for card members so you can make the most of it.

Great for the rewards

I have really enjoyed having a gap card. i love that they send me exclusive offers and coupons. There are times that I get additional percentages off or I can shop sales early. I also appreciate that they usually send me a birthday gift of $10 or so to use at their store. I can usually find something for that price or I can put it toward something else. It's a really fun reward to look forward to. I also appreciate that they have children's clothes so that I can really shop for my whole family there. It makes it easier to get the rewards and makes it more worth it for me. Customer Service Gap can sometimes be stingy with their customer service. I wish they would combine deals and coupons. Sometimes they will give you rewards but put lots of stipulations on them. It makes it feel kind of like cheating--like they didn't really reward you. Available Rates The rates are terrible but we don't carry a balance so we try really hard to just always have it paid off. I don't know that this would be worth it if you were carrying a balance. If you use this card, you should be paying it off.

I'm not a fan.

As store cards go, the Gap credit card is pretty standard. They offer rewards, but they're not very convenient to use. If you spend a lot of money at Gap, it might be worth it. Otherwise, use your regular card or pay cash. Customer Service The customer service for this card is actually pretty good. I've had to call a couple of times, and they've been friendly and knowledgeable. Available Rates Like most store cards, the rates are terrible. I wouldn't carry a balance on this card under any circumstances. They do have a rewards program where you get gift certificates online, but they do have expiration dates, so you have to be sure to use them or you'll lose them. They're usually only $10, so that's just a way to get you in the store to spend money. You can't really buy much at Gap for $10, so you'll end up spending at least $15 or $20 (probably more since you're in the store anyway), so that's not worth it to me. Overall, a card for a small store like this is just not worth the trouble. It's a security risk if it ever gets lost or stolen and it's a ding on your credit if you carry a balance. Pay cash or use your regular card.

Great for Gap Lovers!

I used to shop at the Gap all the time so when offered a Gap store card years ago I applied and got one. I found it useful when shopping there since I got a 15% discount right away off the pile of stuff I happened to be purchasing that day for back to school. I also like that it has a rewards system associated with it. You get 5 points per dollar and you get a $10 rewards card for every 1,000 points you earn ($10 for every $200 you spend). This can be especially helpful when doing expensive back to school shopping because you can then save the rewards cards for holiday shopping later! I also like that the card is good not only at Gap stores but at Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime, and Athleta as well. Since I love Old Navy it's great to be able to use my Gap card to shop there! I love that I get a special coupon on my birthday every year as well as bonus coupons throughout the rest of the year. There is also no annual fee which means I can keep the card and never use it or use it every week and I never have to pay a fee. If you shop at the Gap often it's definitely worthwhile to get a Gap card.

Don't do it

I have had a credit card with about every clothing store out there. I went through a phase were I thought it was so smart to have them. My Gap Visa was no different. I though I would save all this money in coupons and still get my clothes. I also thought I could shop more since I did not have to pay it off right away. What I learned was that you end up paying almost double in interest. I learned that the coupons do not save you any money because you pay it all in interest. There are not enough perks with this card to make it worth having. The coupons do not come that frequently. They really only come if you spend money. I would definitely not recommend this card. Customer Service Customer Service was always fine for me with this card. I only really had to deal with them when I closed it. They were polite and closed it pretty quickly when I called. Available Rates The interest rate on all these clothing store cards are high. The Gap Vise carries a high interest rate and is not worth having.

Excellent credit card if you like rewards!

The GE Capital Retail Bank - GAP Card is one of the best credit cards to open if you like to build your wardrobe in an inexpensive way. I frequently shop at the GAP and am very impressed with the quality of their merchandise and their customer service. I opened a GAP credit card for the rewards. I thought it made sense to maximize my savings and the build my wardrobe a little bit at a time. I absolutely love this credit card. I frequently receive promotional offers in the mail and via email that provide a significant percent discount on purchases or "GAP cash" that I can spend like money at the GAP store. I have easily earned $150 in "GAP cash" in the three years that I have had this store card. The promotions alone make it worth it to open this card. Overall, I am very impressed with how easy it is to use the GAP card's online payment system and find that the monthly credit card statements are very easy to read. I highly recommend opening this store credit card. Available Rates If you carry a balance forward each month, the interest rate is higher than average. I pay off my credit card each billing cycle so this interest rate does not affect me.

I love my Gap Card!

I love my Gap Card. I get great special discounts in the store and I accumulate points quickly which gets me free clothes. It is a great card to have if you shop at Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic frequently. I do, so I love it! I pay off my card each month so I am not that familiar with the interest rates, they do seem a bit high to me. However, I pay off all of my cards. I like to have my cards pay me.

Not worth it

1

So you get $10 rewards certificates online, they are not mailed and they do expire so they are hoping you don't use them. Interest rate is super high and it's just NOT WORTH IT! I would rather have a JCrew card where the clothes are nicer and customer service is better. You're just one of the cows in the herd with Gap.

Earn cash for Gap even as you shop - makes Gap affordable!

I have three children and love for them to look their best!  So I found a way to shop for them at the Gap.  Truly, the Gap Card has made it possible for me to do so on a budget.  For every $100 I spend, I receive $10 back, plus discount coupons via e-mail.  I reached silver status and received a Silver Gap card just a few months after conservatively shopping with the Gap card.   Silver Gap card holders receive free shipping all the time at the Gap site and often there are incredible deals that you can only get online.  Every Tuesday at Gap users of the Gap card receive a 10% discount.  If you happen to shop on another day of the week, just bring your receipt in on a Tuesday and you can receive the 10% discount back to your card. I have even purchased over my limit and it hasn't been a problem - I was actually thanked by the phone representative for being a responsible card user, as I have made my payments on time.  This is easy enough to do, as online payments can be made anytime.  The Gap card can also be used at Banana Republic, Old Navy and Piper Lime.  Finally, just keeping an eye out for Gap discounts advertised in stores can yield a big savings.  Today, I was able to buy two long shirts for my boys, with one being free!  I would caution you to make at least the minimum payments on time every week so you stay in good standing with the Gap card and can take advantage of all its benefits!
