Not the best

We moved into a rental home back in February. I was super excited when I saw the dishwasher, thinking I wouldn't have to wash dishes by hand anymore, boy was I wrong.  Even if I rinse the dishes before I load them in the dishwasher, there is still food left on them and I end up having to rewash them all anyway. The top compartment is frequently getting stuck and has even come off the track. The unit also makes funny noises when washing. When using a light load you would think it would wash the dishes but it doesn't.  With three kids dishes pile up really quickly. When you think of having a dishwasher you want to be able to rinse then load and go. With this unit I think it is more of a waste of time to try washing them in there than what it is worth.  My pots and pans never come out clean. If you have to wash the dishes completely before putting dishes into the dishwasher what is the actual purpose of having the dishwasher if it doesn't do its job? If it were up to me i would get a different one, one that actually works properly.

Washes dishes adequately

When we bought our 70 year old house only a few items had been updated since it had been occupied by the original owner.  All appliances were barely working, but the owner bought an insurance policy good for one year replacement on any that failed.  I immediately changed the electric stovetop toi gas, bought a new refrigerator since there wasn't any in the house, and bought a new dryer since I brought my old washer from my previous house.  The dishwasher failed within 4 weekis of our occupancy. I had no choice of dishwashers if I had to take what the insurance offered or buy my own and pay for it myself.  We were given a GE low end line washer as a replacement.  It is made of plastic iwhich has already started to peel. It is quite noisy It washes dishes and silverware adequately, but does a terrible job on pots, pans, cookie sheets or anything that is an odd shape.  Unfortuanately in this economy, I cannoat afford a replacement, but would do so in a flash.  In previous houses, I've had Maytag, and Bosch machines which were far superior in performance, noise and wear and tear.

GE Dishwasher great unless you have curious kids!

SInce I am a mom I view everything from a mom standard. I would not reccomend this washer to someone with small curious children. The buttons light up when pushed so my kids thought it was fun to push the buttons. There is a button lock but it is the only button that makes a beep when you push it and you only have to push it twice to unlock all the buttons. My two year old figured that out fast! He has started the wash a couple of times. One thing that is great if you have kids is that there is an actual handle that you move to lock the door in. My husband and I just had to get in the habbit of locking it everytime we opened it. If you don't have small kids this would be a good washer for you. The buttons are easy to read and understand and easy to push. There is no nob to twist, all your options are buttons. It runs on the quieter side but is not silent and it has a large rack for the silverware, which is wonderful. The inside is nice and spacious!

I was lucky enough to get this dishwasher through a friend at an incredible price.  I was replacing another GE dishwasher which still worked just fine...original appliance in condo.  The styling now matches my other appliances and it works just great!  There are, however, several things I don't like about it.  First, is the silverware basket in the door...there are no dividers betweer the sections and the sometimes the silverware turns over and lays on the bottom.  I must say that I would never again purchase this feature.  I much prefer the basket in the pull out rack...even though it takes up space.  The top rack is also lower than most, but you sacrifice the size of the items loaded in the lower rack.  The great thing about the newer one is that the bottom rack does not slip off the runners like the older one did!  I am so thankful for that as I have had a few choice words for that old dishwasher!  Thanks GE for improving on that, but please think about that in the door silverware rack.  Doesn't anyone test these things?

I've been slowly switching my appliances to energy star ones and this is the dishwasher that stood out for me. It works really well, and it is used all the time! Twicw a day sometimes 3 times a day! I try to get the kids to rinse off their dishes but it's not a problem with this dishwaher, the dishes are always clean and it is so quit and quick!
