After a slew of dog food recalls a few years back, I asked our vet to recommend us to a quality dog food for our dachshund. He recommended that we find a dog food brand that gets ALL the ingredients from the US, he mentioned that most of the fillers and the vitamins/preservatives added in other countries end up becoming recalled. He recommended a few brands, and the one we liked (but also the trickiest to find) was Fromm's. Our dachshund is kind of picky, and he didn't particularly love some of the Fromm's flavors but the Beef Frittata is definitely his all time favorite. In fact, he tends to beg and overeat, so we have to switch between this formula and the chicken ala veg. I also like the crunchy texture of this food, because his previous food disintegrated too quickly and his teeth started building up plaque and he had the worst breath. Sorry if it's TMI but his stool is also more firm and he seems to have less anal gland issues as well after switching to this brand. I also don't know if I'd recommend this brand to larger breeds because it is quite expensive.

The kibbles are very small and have an enticing aroma - even to a human. My grain sensitive golden retriever looks forward to eating it and his itchiness has lessened. Quality of Ingredients I like the authentic ingredients in this food as opposed to chemically constructed and "garbage" ingredients in some other foods. Flavor Selection There are a few flavors to choose from in the grain free line.

Finally, Fromm's came out with a beef-based formula in their high quality line of dog foods. And it also happens to be grain-free as well! My dogs and I are huge fans of the whole Fromm's line. This is the seventh flavor that they've had, and they're just as happy as they were with the first. Fromm's is a family-owned enterprise in Wisconsin and it's obvious that they take pride in the quality of their food. I'm also impressed that they try to come up with unique flavor combinations made with wholesome ingredients. The new Beef Frittata variety has beef (duh), eggs (a must for a frittata), potatoes and sweet potatoes, and a basket of fruits and vegetables to round out the meal. Plus, they threw in some pork, beef liver, and salmon oil, as well as prebiotics and probiotics to help with digestion. This is one of the higher percentage protein foods in the Fromm's line (30%), which is good for my dogs as they are quite active. If you have a dog that could lose a few pounds, you might be better off with the Whitefish, Pork or Chicken options (23-24% protein). In any case, my dogs love the Beef Frittata and have had no issues with it. As with most premium foods, you'll pay more for this that for your average pet supply store brand, but it's definitely worth it.
