perfect for my son

5

my son was diagnosed with diabetes a year ago and this is the meter that he received. this meter is perfect for him because it takes such a minimal amount of blood to get a reading. with a teen it's bad enough to have to constantly stick yourself with a needle, but this makes it not so bad since you don't have to stick it so deep because not much blood is needed. the meter has great features like the memory and also the averaging of past sugars. very happy this was the meter he was given and continues to use.

Freestyle Freedom Lite is Great!

I have been using this system for over a year and it just gets better and easier to use. The new test strips work even faster. They have these new technologically advanced black notches at the end which is sensitive to just the smallest drop of blood which is very fast and convenient in getting a quick blood glucose reading. The whole system has become one of the most popular blood glucose meter systems out there today. However, if your insurance does not cover most or all of your cost for the test strips, they can get very expensive. Fortunate my strips are mostly covered by insurance. I believe these particular strips run about 50 or 60 bucks in retail stores and I would not be paying that much on my own. But if you can afford it and/or your insurance will cover it, I would definitely recommend this product! It is very easy to use and provides quick results. Hope this review helps someone.

Tiny bit of blood

This is a really nice little gadget. It doesn't take much blood. The numbers are easy to read and it is very easy to use. The strips aren't too bad in price. I prefer this one to my other glucose monitors. So far, it seems to be the longest lasting. You can test on your arm, although, I test so often, when I do that, it looks like drug tracts. LOL. I stick with my fingers because of that. It could be that I'm just really light skinned that it shows like crazy. But, I have to say, it is almost painless on the arm and very gentle on the fingers compared to my other monitors.

When I was first diagnosed with Diabetes, I purchased a True Track tester from Walgreen. It was easy to use, but the test strips were outrageously expensive. It got to the point that I quit testing my blood sugar. When I contacted my insurance company to find out about getting a prescription for one, they told me that I would have to get my supplies from a different company. This company didn't deal with the True Track and sent me a FreeStyle Freedom Lite. In the beginning, I hated it! It was hard to use compared to what I was used to. it seemed to need more blood, and I had a hard time getting enough onto the test strip. Then, they sent me a different type of test strip. It's got a different shape, and has little things on the side that you touch up against the blood. It sucks the blood right in, and takes very little blood to get a reading. I've learned to love my little FreeStyle Freedome Lite, and depend on it several times per day to be accurate.

I Like My Freestyle Lite Glucometer

I am a Type 2 Diabetic and I have to test my blood sugar once or twice daily. I would like to recommend my Freestyle Freedom Lite Blood Glucose Monitor to anyone looking for a monitor. It is very easy to use and only requires a small drop of blood for it to work. It is now even easier since the newer test strips have a little pointed area on the test strip to indicate where the blood is drawn into the strip. I just hold the strip up to the blood drop and it sucks it in easily. The meter turns itself on and off automatically when the strip is inserted in or taken out of the meter so you don't have to remember to turn it off and thus use lots of your battery. The results are displayed in large numbers on the meter screen and they come just a few seconds after the blood is drawn into the test strip. The reasons I recommend this item is that it is easy and quick to use, requires very little blood on the test strip, and is very accurate.

I have a history of diabetes on my father's side of the family, so through the years I've had to be especially diligent about watching what I eat and exercising for fear of developing it. About six years ago, I actually did develop pre-diabetes and it scared me so much I immediately lowered my levels with diet and exercise.  However when I was 26 weeks pregnant with my son, the doctor told me I had gestational diabetes (I did the glucose tolerance test to find out).  So I had to meet with a nutritional counselor and diabetes educator.  This turned out to be a blessing, because I really learned a lot. And, she introducted me to the Freestyle Freedom Lite Blood Glucose Monitor by Abbott! I already had two of the earlier versions of this monitor, but this one has both of them beat.  It is by far the smallest monitoring system I've had (I like the discreetness of it; fits nicely in your purse and has a nice carrying case). She also gave me a "skin" (like you'd put on an mp3 player) in my choice of colors, which was cool.  The best part is, this monitor allows you to test on your arm or thigh (places that for me were painless to test).  I HATED testing on my fingertips so I told the counselor I refused to test if she didn't have a monitor that I could use to test elsewhere.  That's why she introduced me to this one.  It truly made a world of difference and made it all that easier to test four times a day.  The digital display was easy to read and it "beeps" when your level is calibrated. I've never had any problems with it, and I still (post-pregnancy) continue to monitor my levels from time to time because I want to make sure I don't start getting higher than normal levels again.

LOTS OF BELLS AND WHISTLES

THIS PARTICULAR GLUCOMETER IS ABOUT MY FIFTH DIFFERENT ONE SINCE MY DIAGNOSIS FOR DIABETES. IT IS MY FAVORITE METER THUS FAR AS IT DOESNT REQUIRE AS LARGE A BLOOD SAMPLE AS MANY METERS DO, WHICH IS A BIG DEAL WHEN YOU ARE ALREADY POKING YOUR FINGERS 4 TIMES A DAY, YOU ARENT ANXIOUS TO HAVE TO DO EXTRA POKES BECAUSE OF ERRORS FOR ANY REASON.   THIS PARTICULAR MODEL SEEMS TO COMBINE SOME HIGHER TECH CONVEIENCES WITH A SIPLISTIC ENOUGH DESIGN THAT YOU CAN STILL FIND YOUR WAY AROUND IT IT GIVES YOU A VARIETY OF WAYS OF TRACKING YOUR SUGARS WHILE BEING SIMPLISTIC ENOUGH THAT YOU WILL USE IT AS OFTEN AS YOU NEED TO INSTEAD OF THINKING OF IT AND SHRUGGING OFF TESTING AS ORDERED BY YOUR PHYSICIAN...I PERSONALLY WISH THE MAKERS OF THESE GLUCOMETERS WOULD INCLUDE THE CABLES AND ONLINE TRACKING SOFTWARE WITH THE METER.   I MEAN DONT THEY MAKE ENOUGH MONEY OFF THE YEARS OF STRIPS?? BUT I LIKE THE FREESTYLE FOR EASE OF USE !!

easy to use meter

The FreeStyle Freedom Lite Blood Glucose Meter is the best one we have ever used.  The meter is small in size and comes in a great case so you can easily take it with you.  It has a backlight on it so you can test in low light situations.  There is no coding necessary so it eliminates one step when you get new test strips.  This meter also only requires a very small blood sample for the test.  The features on the meter make it very easy to use.  You can set an alarm on it to remind you when you need to test.  It has memory to track your previous test results.  The website from Abbott Diabetes Care, www.myfreestyle.com, offers some great promotions including 10 free test strips, free meter and lifetime battery replacements, co-pay savings on test strips, and access to a Licensed Certified Diabetes Educator.  It is free to join the Freestyle Promise Program and it provides great benefits.  It's definately the easiest meter to use.
