This DVR is just an image of the real thing
I was surprised to see all the positive reviews for this DVR then I realized it wasn't for this product but the invention of the DVR itself. I don't think these reviewers owned any other DVD's prior to the review. I can never justify how rotten this product is in writing, so my wife and I are in the process of creating a clip for YouTube for a better understanding of the incompetence of both the manufacturer and DTV for buying it. I don't understand what happened to DirecTV in the couple of years we forced to watch cable. We had been with DirecTV since the 90's. We still have one of their DVR's in a box. I'm still trying to justify hooking it up. *It's slow, slow, slow. * I'm a computer programmer by trade, anyone knows that you don't stack commands if your product can't handle it real time. So suffice it to say, I'm never where I want to be but where they took me after it finally caught up with the buttons I pushed on the remote. I can't live without a DVR. I agree I'm thrilled with them. However, this DVR takes so long to record, watch, and delete that I'm reconsidering my VCR. *What happened to common sense?* Now I finally have my list of programs to watch. To find my programs easier I sorted it by alphabetically. I find my program heading, click on it and get a listing of all the *episodes* I recorded IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER. If I tried to watch American Idol in this order, folks would be singing after they got the boot. A little common sense bluntly suggests descending date order for all my episodes under the header. I choose the option record a maximum five episodes of a series. Come the sixth recording it records it and wipes out the oldest recording I was saving for later. Not only do I lose my episodes, but I also, I can't record anything else while it's sucking up the recorder on a sixth episode I never requested. I do not watch TV, just my recording, so I needed to do a lot of program searching. Forget it! Go online to the TV guide and find it. The previous college football season the decided to name the games by the teams rather than by 'college football'. This would be fine if I knew what teams were playing - but that's why I did a search in the first place. A search on keyword College/Sports/Football returned nothing. Looking for a movie? Just key it in the 'Smart Search'. It returns 100's of lines of the same movie repeatedly on every pay channel there is. First, I don't get pay channels. Secondly, list all the occurrences of the movie once for each channel to shorten the list by 75 pages. Anyway the nightmare continues to this day but has eased up some. Two of the DVR's gave up the ship at the same time and they were replaced with a much speedier version. The incompetence of it still remains, tho. They also gave me a 'radio' controlled remote which actually works when I key in something. It still takes naps, but at least it doesn't take 10 minutes to change the channel anymore.
