For the price, I would buy it again

Vostro 1510 Love the weight and the fact that all is built in, but after just 6 months the sound card is wacked! Love the fact that the top is not LOCKED to the bottom, just flip open Not real happy that it is practically impossible to get a Dell that does not have Vista pre-loaded and that all the drivers need to be specific, more related to the VISTA crap than the actual Dell...but more options on the OS would have been really nice without having to change puter or pay extra!

This laptop is good for the basics.

I was so excited to buy this laptop because it was my first brand new computer. (All the others I'd had were hand me downs.) I was immediately disappointed. Not all of the USB ports (there are 4) work properly, despite spending several hours at different times on the phone with Dell tech support. Also, there is a clear sticker on the touch pad above the keyboard. In a month or so of ownership, it started to bubble and there's no way to fix it. The mouse touch pad has always been difficult to work, too, so I usually plug in a mouse. The battery life is now virtually nonexistent. While this may seem like I'm entirely critical, I don't mean to be. This computer has served me well. I do a lot of audio editing and it has little problem running the software needed for that. It can also store a lot of data, which is great for what I do. The screen is also very easy to see from multiple angles and it's lightweight and easy to take wherever.

Dell VOSTRO 1510 - only complaint is battery life

4

I received the Dell Vostro 1510 as a gift for Christmas one year.  My old Dell was losing it's juice and I was in desperate need of an upgrade.  At first, I missed my old laptop - the Vostro large screen size and keyboard touch took some getting used to.  I believe it is designed for small businesses and I am an at-home everyday personal user.  Overtime, I have grown to like it.  I could probably have gone with a smaller screen, but at times the larger screen comes in handy for watching video and such.  One of my major complaints is the battery life.  I have owed the computer for a little over two years and I already need a new battery.  And the price is not cheap!  I have been working with the laptop plugged into a power source constantly while I save up to buy a new battery.  I have read this con on many online reviews as well.   It does have a sleek look and I have experienced no repair issues.  It came with some nice software features such as personal entertainment for downloading, saving and organizing pictures which I like a lot.

When I started my masters program online, I did not own a laptop. My son owned a Dell Vostro 1500, and he recommended that I buy one. Knowing that my son is computer literate, and that I am not I took him for his word. I went to Dell online, and I found the Vostro 1510. I bought it instantly with the 2 year extended in home warranty, and I have never looked back. The screen resolution is great. I added Microsoft office, and I have been a happy little typer ever since. I have not a single complaint about this product, and I highly reccomend it to others whenever I am asked what I use for a laptop.   David

Great screen and fast!

I was able to get this computer through my work- definitely a great computer...love Dell's!  I have had a few troubles with the mouse control pad- it's like it spasms out and get stuck 'on'.  And then it seems like I can't get it to unstick.  I also don't like the placement of the USB ports....I don't seeing the light blink on and off on my thumb drive while it is inserted (very annoying)...and they almost seem too close together as my fatter USB connector for my 10 key won't work next to a thumb drive.  Do like the fact that it has so many ports. I also had trouble with the keyboard- I accidentally turned on the Fn function and it took me awhile to figure out how to turn it off. I LOVE the screen though- it's large and VERY clear. The processor is also fast!  I do a lot of picture management and digital scrapbooking on my computer and it never seems to bog down. (My kids love the pinball game it came with too!)

Vostro 1510, very sturdy but for projector connectivity

4

I find this model VOSTRO 1510 to be a very sturdy model. I love the CD drive, which is very similar to a car CD drive, no kit-kating! The issues I face with the keyboard layout are the Home and End keys which need an additinal Fn key to be pressed simultaneously. The other more important issue I am facing is that I cannot connect to the Acer projector P1265. There is something related to the ports that I found on some other reviews. Kindly advise. "Perhaps the most interesting omission from the ports selection is the lack of either S-video out or HDMI. Some older video projectors still use the S-video port and most newer external monitors and high-resolution projectors use the HDMI port. The absence of both the S-video port and the HDMI port in Vostro1510 means that this notebook won't be 100 percent friendly with all external displays used for presentations.(http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4444)"
