This Dell Latitude D810 computer has lasted me several years and still works really well.  I got this computer for class about 5 years ago.  It was lasted me just fine for the past few years, got me through several law school exams and two bar exams.  I am able to do basic audio recordings with this laptop ( the soundcard is pretty good), am able to watch videos, access the internet and do word processing.  I did have to reinstall the OS once after my computer got a virus, but since then I haven't had any difficulties with the machine. Nowadays, computers have pretty short lifespans so I am pleseantly surprised by the durability of this machine.  Dell does use refurbished parts to repair/replace defective machines, but I think this is pretty common throughout the industry so I guess that's just what you get.  Overall, I would definitely recommend this machine, it has survived a lot and still works very well.

My Dell Latitude D810 was purchase as a work laptop, new, nearly 6 years ago. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. Knock wood! In fact, this computer gets carried everywhere I go nearly every day, in the car, in the office, at home, on the go, getting bumped around, spilled into the floor, etc. And still it works like new! My company is purchasing new laptops for us soon, and I have to admit I will be sad to see this one go. It has been the best computer I have ever had. It is a bit heavier and thicker than most newer models, but that really doesnt bother me. Makes me feel like it is more durable and rugged, which I need as much as I travel with mine. As far as appearance goes, it is the standard silver and grey color, has external mute and volume controls, and various options for mouse. I have not done my research on newer latitudes but hope that they perform as well as my 6 year old Dell does!!
