I am giving this a nine solely based on the relief it provides for those nasty canker sores. The medicine burns and it is a pain to put on, but it you regularly suffer from canker sores, then this is well worth it! It covers up the sore and makes it easier to eat and drink and I am sure makes it easier to heal. But, be aware that it will burn as it is going on and for it to do the best job, the surface of the inside of the mouth needs to be dry where you want to apply this. That can be a challenge, but well worth the time and effort if you want to actually eat food during a breakout! If you are going to apply this on a child, you will definitely need to be helping them a lot with the application. You might even need help yourself. It helps to put on a thin coat and to blow on it as it dries to help the process go more quickly. I always keep some of this around and am thankful someone thought of something like this to help!

This product is no longer sold as Colgate has discontinued it. I had purchased it years ago and it worked very fine in reducing the pain and was a true Colgate product. It worked very well in curing sores within the mouth and also helped to reduce any tooth pain. The tube was quite small but it lasted quite a long time. You will not even realize that your sore is paining and this Oralbase cures the pain within seconds. I also used it for my children who used to get sores within their mouth often and used to cry with pain and could not even eat anything because of the pain. The benzocaine ingredient within this Oralbase helps to numb the pain fast. The other pain relievers were of no use and only this product was the best and it worked for me. The price of this product was very reasonable compared to other brands and I wish that Colgate gets a new product introduced soon.

Had been searching for days trying everything for painful canker sores. Then I found colgate orabase... By far the best I found! Just before applying I rinsed my mouth with salt water, dabbed with tissue to dry area then applied the orabase and in just a minute or so the pain was gone!

colgate orabase is number one in my book.  i have an exposed nerve and as im sure you know that hurts extremely bad and theres not much you can do for it.  well in this case i used orajel and other things and nothing would work.  so when i seen that this was a paste i thought that that should work because the orajel would rinse away and the paste would actually stick.  and boy was i right.  orajel only brought little comfort as to the colgate orabase it brought total comfort.  i just put some on my finger and stick it back there on my tooth and gumline and it works in minutes.  its a little pricey but im willing to pay for it.  it works!!!  i have to use it all the time because i have no dental insurance at the moment and i have been using this stuff for months everyday which of course is not good but its my only choice.  the only thing i do not like about it is that sometimes it burns when i let my tooth get in severe pain and put it on.  but its a weird burn. like the good kind i guess because i know im gonna have comfort soon.  okay so im a little weird but the bottom line is its great!!  one of the best pain relievers on the market and it stays for hours.  plus it doesnt taste much like anything either like orajel and those others do.  so i would definitly recommend this stuff.

I first bought Colgate Orabase while looking for something to help my partner, who had bitten himself on the inside of the cheek something horrible. Orabase cost less than the competitor's popular product, but I hoped it would work just the same. Sure enough it did. It is a gel in a small tube which is easy to squeeze and apply (the only downside is it can be hard to apply a gel to slick mouth tissues -- a paste might be more effective). The active ingredient is Benzocaine. It provides a temporary numbing effect to all sorts of mouth problems including canker sores and painful or irriatated gums. Today I am using it for a surprise toothache possibly brought on by TMJ--it provides a surprising amount of relief. The tube seems to last and last making it a good value. I would definitely buy Colgate Orabase again, and thankfully it appears to be widely available if not widely advertised like Ambesol.
