I first received this card in 2006 -- one year after I started college. I'm broke and of course love free stuff. Someone was on campus handing out coupons for free sub sandwiches. Who wouldn't go get one? Well, to use the coupon you had to sign up for a Citi mtvU credit card. I figured since I had no credit history or co-signer, I wouldn't even be approved. I was wrong and received the card -- which had a $3000 limit (that's ridiculous) -- and just started charging everything to it. I had no job and no knowledge of anything to do with credit cards. I always paid it on time and they would raise the credit limit every 6 months. Eventually it was up to $6500. At that point I contacted them and asked them not to increase it anymore and to lower the limit. That's when my interest rate started increasing every 6 months instead. It went from 11% to 19% in a year and a half. This should have been illegal for them to do. Of course they got what they wanted -- uneducated college students who would just spend and spend. I'm happy to say that it's paid off and I cut up the card. I didn't close it because it's my longest credit history. Beware!

This was the card that I decided to get when I first turned 18 after several of the reviews I read through consumer reports and various online articles. It was written to be one of the best student cards around, with good rewards, good APR, and ways to help students learn responsible spending. Upon signing up I was approved instantly with a fairly decent credit limit for a first time card. For the first 6 months, I received 0% APR on all purcahses and balnace transfers. The best thing this card offers are the rewards though. You get points for not only what you spend, but also extra points for spending money on things most college students do such as books and food. You get extra points for simply paying your bill on a timely basis and for making your minimum payment. All of you points go through a seperate point website which allow you to also connect your citi bank accounts and other cards if you have them. You can redeem all sorts of interesting rewards foryour points. This includes cash, various gift cards, and even payments on your student loans. I really like the fact that citi rewards me for being a responsible credit user. The point rewards are great and the customer service is also wonderful. i would recommend the CITI MTVU card to any student looking to start building their credit.

I would like to first state that before I applied and got a Citi card, I was totally against credit cards. However, Citi changed my mind. Citi card is the only card that I have, and so far, my experience with the company has been great!The customer service representatives are very friendly. I am a low budget college student, and this card has made it easy to build up my credit while in school. The most attractive quality about this card was the No annual fee and No interest on purchases for the first six statements. Another attractive quality is the "Thank You" Rewards program. This is a points program that lets you shop for items using the points you have earned through purchases. I love this system, in that it offers many unique items to "purchase" and these items are shipped to your door at no cost to you! I also love the fraud alert on this card. The Citi company doesn't just email their customers; they call them in order to alert a fraud. This card has made college life much easier for me.

I have an MTVU Student Visa. Like most cards, this has some good things and some bad things about it. When I first got the card, I wanted to make my first payment online. I went on to do it, and it said it needed a week to verify the payment source. That was very annoying because I had to make a phone payment and pay a fee. Also, during the recent recession, Citi raised my interest rate by a significant amount, which is very frustrating to me. One thing about the card that I really like is the rewards program. It rewards you for unique things, like keeping a certain GPA in school. It also offers you rewards for shopping at certain places or referring people to Citi. The rewards store is great, and has everything from Credits to Charity Donations to Toasters. The website is not the best, but it is easy to navigate and make payments on. Overall, I like my card and I will continue to use it!

The mtvU VISA credit card form Citi Bank for college students is a great card to earn rewards on.  You earn five points for each dollar spent at restaurants (including fast food joints), bookstores (amazon.com counts!!), music stores, and movie theaters--everwhere a student would spend money at!  You get one point for every dollar spent every where else.  Additionally you get 25 points for each month you pay your bill on time and you get extra points for a good GPA each semester (up to 2000 points).  These points can be redeemed through the Citi reward program the Thank You Network.  There are lots of redemption options: cash, statement credit, travel, student loan credit, mortgage credit, gift cards and products.  You may not earn a one point per one cent payout, but this is still a great rewards program.  The important thing is to always pay your bills on time because these student cards with rewards generally have very high APRs and finance charges.

I've had this card (Citi mtvU) for over 3 years and it is awesome for this student.  You get 5 points per dollar at restaurants (including fast food), music stores, and bookstores (amazon.com is included, even if you don't buy books!!).  The points can be redeemed through Citi bank's Thank You network and there are a lot of options:  Gift cards, cash, statement credits, mortgage, student loan credits, travel, merchandises/gifts.  Not everything can be redeemed at a 1 point per 0.01 ration, but I still think this is one of the top reward programs.  With the mtvU card, you can earn points quicker, especially if you shop regularly at bookstores or if you eat out a lot (like me!).  Since it is a student card, you do have to be in an accredited college to get the card.  Also, since it IS a student card, your APR is going to be through the roof.  Thus, make sure you pay your balance in full each month, otherwise having the rewards would be meaningless if you're racking up finance charges.

This was my first and only credit card. I kind of got conned into it because if I signed up for it I could get a free pizza. (This was me being stupid my freshman yr of college) After I got it I racked up tons of points, I used it all the time and got my credit limit extended. This was kind of a bad idea because I did not know how to responsibly handle this card. Instead of totally cutting me off they were able to help me gain my good credit back by working with me and helping me establish a payment plan. They worked with me for about 2 or 3 years and my credit has never been so good. Also their rewards program is AWESOME!! The first time I used it I had about $150 in gift cards and I loved it. I know now to save up for the big stuff and I love it. Also I like that amex is not the only one with wonderful perks. I was able to get concert tickets to my favorite singers concert for presale on ticketmaster just by being a citicard member!!!! I LOVE THIS CREDIT CARD! The interest rates arent completely ridiculous either.

The MTVU Credit Card is the first credit card I have ever used, and it was recommended to me because of its simplistic use.  They will accept you regardless of your credit score and the card also offers a great rewards system where you can earn points that you can redeem for Gift Cards, electronics, etc.  I would highly recommend this card for college students because it offers an online payment system and is very easy to use when you are first learning how to manage your money.
