This Canon GL2 Mini DV digital camcorder is one of the best (and most expensive) camcorders that I have ever used! Now, to be honest, I don't actually own the Canon GL2, but I use it A LOT for my film class. I've used a lot of different camcorders by different brands in the past, but this one really has become my favorite. This camera has a 20x lens and it is fantastic. The quality of the video is really impressive, especially if you have been using a cheap camcorder up until now (like me, the difference was really noticeable!). It is really the best quality shots I have gotten up to this point. Overall the interface is great as well, no glaring annoyances to mention. The battery life is very good as well- it's not going to win any awards for "longest battery life," but I bet it's better than what you had before. The biggest downside of this camera is, of course, the price. If you can't drop a few grand on this thing, just hope your school/job did for you!!

The GL2 is a great camera with very good quality video. When buying on-line some dealers give a low price but the unit comes with no battery charger or lens etc. Deal with a company that does not use the bait and switch games. I'm very happy with the camera and it also picks up real good audio with the built in camera mic.

I have been using the Canon GL2 for about 5 years now. It is an excellent camera. It is reliable and takes consistently good footage. Its only drawback is its audio quality, but with a good XLR adaptor, it records high-quality professional sound. It is a standard definitley camera, so if you want High Def you will have to look for another camera, but for SD, this is a fantastic choice. Some things I would recommend with the Canon GL2 are getting a high-quality XLR adaptor for audio such as a BeechTek Adaptor, and a high-quality shotgun or lavalier microphone. You can also invest in a couple of good lens filters such as a UV filter for outdoor shooting and a haze filter for effect. You should also be sure to have a good tripod - although the GL2 is not a very heavy camera, it will start to feel heavy if you hand-hold the camera for long periods, which can result in shaky camera work. You will get beautiful SD images with this camera. And Canon has excellent service and support, so you should have no worries with investing in this camera.
