Burt's Bees Herbal Insect Repellent

Worked for me during mosquito season.

I am surprised at the bad reviews Burt's Bees Repellent is getting. I was happy with the product. I never tested it in the back woods but I used it during the summer through Halloween and it worked against mosquitoes. I am very prone to getting mosquito bites and they swell up to between the size of a quarter to a baseball, so I am happy Burt's Bees worked. I was primarily interested in it as a natural repellant I could use on my infant. The smell is strong, but I like the natural scent compared with other repellants that smell like chemicals.

Not for us

I love Bert's bees products and wish this was a winner for us, but sadly it was not. It didn't keep the bugs off. My son and daughter have very sensitive skin and usually I can trust Burt's bees will be effective and not cause irritation. Well it was lacking in the effective department . I love that Burt's bees products are chemical free but the search will continue for us for and effective chemical free repellant Effectiveness It was not able to keep the bugs away. We live in an area where there are not a lot if bugs but enough to use a repellant. Is was not at all effective on small knats or Mosquitos. I could see a swarm around my kids and non around the kids that used off. Ease of Application It went on easily for both my children and myself. It is on the oily side for me. I do like that it sprays and it not a lotion Scent It was pleasant . All Bert's bees products I have found I like the smell. It's never overpowering. Usually very faint but there.

I wish I could tell you tell you this insect repellant worked, but it doesn't. Not at all. If you are the type of person that gets bitten three times as much as anyone else at a BBQ, this is not for you. The citronella oil is definitely present, but will only make you stick of it, not avoid being bitten. Of course I'd like to not have to use DEET, but I truly risk more ill effects from being bitten than I do absorbing a bit of DEET. Effectiveness This does not work. I've put this on and seen a mosquito land on me while it was still wet on my arm. Ease of Application No spray, pour it on a cloth or directly on your skin. It won't make a difference, it's a mess. Scent It smells like citronella, squared. You are that offensive oil you smell of anti-bug candles at BBQs.

Not completely sold on burts bees herbal insect repellent

While I am all for a natural alternative to anything, and a long time user of burt's bees products, I am not comepletely sold on thier herbel insect repellent.  It doesn't keep all the biting insects away in a heavily wooded or marshy area, but for every day outdoor use it holds up pretty well.  However for my personal taste regardless of how well it works and inspite of its natural aspects I just can not get past the smell of it.  Its not as bad as other natural bugsprays on the market but its still in my opinion not pleasing to the olfactory senses.  Also it tends to be on the oily side and every time I applied it I worried about it staining clothes.  The cover also (at least on mine) didn't stay on well and ended up spilling in my center console of my truck and got all over everything.  Oil ruins things I assure you.  Took me awhile to clean it up and took awhile for the smell to dissipate.  If the smell doesn't bother you and you make sure you are only wearing old clothes when applying it, you should be relatively happy with this product.
