I was really excited to get his fish oil. I had read great reviews about using it for children with Autism. I have a five year old with Autism, and none of the fish oil we tried had worked for him. When I opened the bottle, the little fish looked cute. It's sort of like a capsule. It's purple and shaped like a fish. The capsule felt a little tough, so I read the box to make sure it was chewable. The box said the fish were edible, but they preferred that the child bite the fish and suck the fish oil out of it. I tried one of them before I gave it to my son. These things are not edible. It was nearly impossible to chew them, and it was absolutely impossible to chew it enough to swallow. That wouldn't of been a deal breaker, but the taste of the oil was horrible. It was really slimy also. I knew my son wouldn't go for it, but I tried it anyway. I explained to him that he just needed to chew it. He bit down on it, and all the fish oil shot out of it and onto the floor. These fish oils were not designed well.

I purchased these chewable fish oil tablets and thought they tasted pretty good. Then I read the ingredients and was sad to find out that it had sweeteners that I don't think adults or children should be consuming. The ingredient list on the box that I had said that it had the artificial sweetener Splenda is made with which is Sucralose. I have found that it is important to stay away from many of these artificial sweeteners for many reasons. The can adversely affect your liver and your brain health. Those who have epilepsy are told to stay away from many of these artificial sweeteners because of their affects on the brain. For children that are taking this supplement for the brain health they may be better off taking a fish oil tablet if they are able to swallow capsules then that would be a good option. We have been taking fish oil for years and so when we got these chewable fish tablets I thought it would be a nice trial for a change. We have since gone back to swallowing the fish capsules instead.

I had never heard of Bioglan Kids Smart Hi DHA-Omega 3 Fish Oil until I saw it advertised at my local drugstore. Because I netted it for free after the store promotion, I decided to give it a try. Although, after reading the information on the package, I probably would have purchased it anyways. What immediately drew my eye, was that this product contains up to 10 times more fish oil than other kids vitamins. Fish oil is said to help support healthy brain development and both my husband and myself take fish oil supplements ourselves, so I liked the idea of my children taking fish oil too. Kids Smart also has up to 3 time more DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) than other brands. Many infant formulas, milk, and yogurt contain DHA, which is said to support healthy brain and retinal development in young children. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has endorsed qualified health claims for DHA, but it is important to note that the statements on the Bioglan Kids Smart Hi DHA-Omega 3 Fish Oil package have NOT been evaluated by the FDA. So this product passed the initial "mom test" but would my kids like it? Even though the fish oil comes in a neat fish-shaped capsule, they were apprehensive at first because the capsule was hard and looked like plastic. However, after braving their first attempt and popping it into their mouths, they both gave it a thumb's up. There are two ways to take this supplement. My kids prefer the "chew and burst" method, which is to pop the capsule into their mouth and chew it until the berry-flavored liquid squirts out. The other way is the "twist & squirt," in which they twist off the tail of the fish and squirt the liquid directly into their mouth (discarding the outer capsule into the trash). I recommend the twist & squirt method for small children as the capsule could be hard for them to chew and swallow after the liquid is dispensed. This product is for children ages three and up and the recommended serving is 1-2 capsules per day. Each capsule contains 500 mg of fish oil and 133 mg of DHA. One bottle contains 30 capsules.
