This is the cadillac of sewing machines

5

I got this Bernina sewing machine for christmas when I was 17 years old. I took it to college with me and used it in my fashion classes and sewed literally hundreds of garments for 4 years. It has been ten years since I got this machine and it still works like a dream. It is quiet and extremely hardy. I never really use any of the embroidery or trim options because I don't really like them style wise they are kinda dated. The variety of speeds you get with the peddle its pretty great if you are a perfectionist and also the hands free handle is pretty convenient. I hate how heavy this machine is! I am a tiny woman and lugging this around kills my back. I just wish it was lighter! other than that I love it!

Love my Bernina Activa!

When I went shopping for sewing machines, I had already decided what brand I was going to buy and it wasn't Bernina. Until I sewed with one. I fell in love with it's smooth, beautiful stitching. It is more expensive than some other brands, but I think in the case of sewing machines you generally get what you pay for and I don't know anyone that doesn't love their Bernina. I sew a lot, much more than the average person. I'm ashamed to admit that I have owned my machine for over 8 years and I have yet to have it serviced. But I haven't had any problems with it. I have sewed through multiple layers of heavy weight fabrics just fine. Features it includes are a great selections of stitches (including some cute decoratives ones I have used), adjustable needle position, stitch length, etc. It's computurized, which can be both a plus and a minus. Downsides to this machine include it's small size. If you only make apparel, this isn't a problem, but for quilts or even large home decor projects this can be a hassle. I've made as large as a twin size quilt, but it is difficult. Also, Bernina feet and attatchments are incredibly expensive, more so than any brand I've seen. Other than, it's a lovely little machine and I would recommend it!

I have has the bernina Activa for quiet a few years now (over 10). I have sewn all kinds of things on it (clothes, uniforms, craft projects etc) and I have never had a problem. The ont thing that has ever broken on this machine were needles and that was because of my carelessness/impatience. OK I know what you are thinking. Bernina is an expensive brand of machine. I agree, it is. But I have had less expensive machines and lets just say I no longer have them. If you are only a dabbler then you do not need to spend so much on a machine.  If you want to use your machine more than the average person then I highly suggest that you make the investment in a solid machine like this one. While it is computerized you do need to know that it is not an embroidery machine. It will not do monograms or characters but it will help you create fantastic products for your family, friends or even your small business.

I have been sewing all my life and always wanted a really good machine. About 10 years ago I had the chance to purchase my Brenina. I have never been sorry, it sews like a dream, goes through heavy fabric like butter and has the bell and whistles I wanted.
