Badger Sleep Balm

3

I have trouble getting to sleep, because I'm usually thinking about the next day and all I have to do. I wanted to try something that wasn't medicinally-based. This sleep balm has no drugs, artificial colors, or preservatives in it; it's made of rosemary, lavender, balsam, bergamot, ginger, and balsam with an oil and wax base. On the plus side: the scent is absolutely wonderful - sort of like being in an evergreen forest with rosemary and lavender plants all around. The negatives: the directions say to rub the balm on your temples, upper lip, face, and neck. The waxy texture felt sticky there, and it was too heavy for my skin - I had a few small breakouts in those areas the next morning. Does it work? For me, no. The directions state that this balm won't make you fall asleep, just calm your thoughts so that you can fall asleep naturally. It didn't do that for me, but I didn't waste it; it became a very good moisturizer for tougher areas of skin - heels, cuticles, etc. So if you are good at suggestive methods of inducing sleep, this might be helpful to you.

When you're as hyper as me, shutting your brain up isn't easy.

***Quick View:*** As a lover of fragrance and of natural products, I turn to natural things before trying anything medicinal. **Badger Sleep Balm** is a calming balm that helps me to relax. It doesn't really lull me to sleep but the scent is relaxing and it is a natural way to chill out.***About Badger Sleep Balm*** This balm comes in a two ounce metal tin. It's made with olive oil, castor oil, beeswax, and pure essential oils of bergamot, ginger, rosemary, lavender, and balsam fir. The scent is very relaxing and "quiet" if that makes sense. It reminds me of nighttime and sleep rather than a zippy scent like citrus that is energizing. The balm is hard and somewhat greasy. You just swipe your finger over the balm and dot or rub it on your pulse points. I like to use it on my temples, wrists, above my nose (so I can really smell it), neck, and even my lips. It is good for my skin and actually can be used as a body balm. I have used it in a pinch on my legs and it gave them a pretty sheen and hydrated them nicely. This balm will last forever! I have had my tin for ages. I don't use it nightly but I keep it in my nightstand drawer and use it when I feel crazy and unable to calm my brain or even my lips feel dry at night. I will use it as a lip balm and get the benefits of the relaxing scent. I believe in aromatherapy and this does relax me but it doesn't really "put me to sleep". It's just a calming, natural balm that relaxes the mind. ***My Viewpoint*** I am quite a fan of Badger products and use several of their balms. This one is a good one. The scent is very relaxing and the balm is super versatile. The only thing about it that I don't like is that it is greasy and, if I use too much, my hair will get in it and will be greasy. I wash my hair in the morning anyway so it isn't a big deal but still, some may not like the greasiness of this product. I like this balm and will use it as I have been for as long as it lasts which looks to be forever at this rate. ***4 stars!***

Badger Sleep Balm -- Nice Idea But Doesn't Last

2

Whether you're dealing with chronic anxiety or the kind of everyday stress that occasionally keeps you up at night, it can be nice to find natural ways of calming your tensions and winding down. Teas, essential oils, herbal supplements -- I've tried plenty. I had high hopes for Badger Sleep Balm, an organic mix of essential and carrier oils and beeswax emulsified into a balm meant to relax one's worried mind. The balm's scent is a natural mix of lavender, rosemary, ginger, bergamot, and balsam fir. Each of these oils is reputed to have an aromatheraputic effect on anxiety and stress. Personally, I've had great success using lavender oil by itself as a stress reducer, so I know scents like these can work for me. Unfortunately, something about the Badger Balm was just lacking. Although the balm itself is on the heavy, greasy side, I did not find that the scent lasted long. Indeed, it wasn't even strong enough for me to smell unless I applied it to my lips or directly under my nose -- putting it on pulse points or temples did nothing. The scent was nice -- definitely an herbal lavender blend -- but so *light*! Because it was somewhat greasy, the balm wasn't entirely pleasant to apply or leave on, and I always wonder about sanitation with products like this, where you have to scoop out the balm with your fingers instead of applying it from a tube (like a lip balm). While the amount of product was generous, after a while I no longer wanted to keep reaching into the same pot, even with clean fingers. I think I'd do just as well with a plain old lavender lip balm.

Like it but don't think it works

I love this product as I put it on my lips every night before bed.  In the morning, I wake up with some of the product still on so I know that it keeps my lips soft all night.  I don't think the product makes me sleep better but it does help me from getting chapped lips.

Nice idea but it just doesn't work.

I'm a high school teacher in a building that has its fair share of crazy, out-of-control days.  Sometimes I get home and need to take a nap.  Other days I just go to bed almost immediately after dinner to rest.  My mind (and pulse) are often racing as I contemplate the day's events and what tomorrow will bring.  There are many nights when I have difficulty falling asleep.  My fiance watched me try warm milk, vitamins/herbs, and even pillow spray.   One Christmas he stuffed my stocking with all sorts of "relaxation" products, including *Badger Sleep Balm*. This balm is a blend of extra virgin olive oil, castor oil, beeswax, and bergamot, ginger, rosemary, lavender, and balsam fir essential oils.  It has a very strong "herbal" fragrance.  The company suggests applying it to temples, face, neck, and/or lips at bedtime.  It is easy enough to transfer the *Badger Sleep Balm* from the 2 ounce tin to your skin.  It spreads on readily but doesn't really absorb into skin.  It pretty much just sits there in a bit of a greasy layer. I could have handled the greasiness if *Badger Sleep Balm* was an effective product.  I truly hoped that it would help me to fall asleep but, unfortunately, it really didn't do anything other than clear out my sinuses.  I've used it dozens of times in an attempt to relax and go to sleep, but this "calming sleep enhancer" is a disappointment.  Not recommended!
