The All Clad waffle maker was a splurge item that my girlfriend and I decided to get when shopping for a waffle maker. We own a fair number of All Clad items and all of them have been very high quality. Most of the other waffle makers on the market do not make huge, thick, restaurant-quality waffles and so we took the plunge and purchased this unit. We were debating between the 2- and the 4-square waffle maker. Purchase the 4 square waffle maker if you are on the fence. The 4-square waffle maker makes 2 or 3 waffles just fine, and the ability to make 4 waffles at a time is very helpful. Two hungry people can eat two waffles apiece, so the 4-square maker allows you to be able to sit down and eat at the same time; if you are cooking for a large group, it also speeds up efficiency. The waffle maker has multiple settings for how done you want your waffles, from a barely-cooked 0 or 1 to an extremely crisp 7. I typically set mine on 2 which browns the waffles but does not scorch them. I've never tried anything higher. The waffle maker comes with a recipe book which has good ideas-- the yeasted waffles in particular are very delicious. One thing to note about All Clad is that with most of their products they have a lifetime warranty, but for their electronics it is only one year. That said, I've owned this for almost two years now and never have had a problem. My only gripe is that it is difficult to clean. If they made a unit with detachable plates, this waffle maker would be ideal. Because they do not, you need to clean the deep crevices of this waffle maker between uses, which can be somewhat unwieldy, but not inconvinient enough for me to doc a star.
