I don't know where all the positive reviews are coming from but this AIPTEK Digital Camcorder features a lot of failures after a few weeks of using the video camera device myself. I've have disconnection malfunctions with this camera and even had trouble turning it off. You would think that it would feature a light sensitivity element within the camcorder but it doesn't, all the photos taken from the device were dark in normal indoor or low light conditions. I found the battery life on this camcorder to be ridiculous, you would think that the brand new that you planned to actually use the device but it drains the battery fast so good luck ever being able to actually use it for long periods of time. The USB Port features this cheap cover which is only a matter of time that it will simply break off unless you never want to upload your photos and videos from the device to your computer, others it's just a cheap design to keep dust from getting in there which will be inevitable, it's just a bad design plain and simple. Be aware that this camcorder has virtually no built-in memory whatsoever so you will have to pay out of your pocket again to buy a memory card. I could continue on but I will stop here, just avoid this camcorder and look for a different brand as this one is just hopeless and fails miserably by its bad design and camera performance.

Pocket DV5100M

4

The camera I have, which I am reviewing here, is a pocket sized model very similar to the one shown in the picture above. The one in the picture looks like an IS-DV2. I am reviewing the DV5100M. Performance It's alright for what it is. The Pocket DV5100M is 5 megapixels. That's not as high as needed if you intend on uploading to the internet. If it's just for home movies or finding out what the dog is up to while you're at work, it'll do. You will need a light source. This camera is not great for night shooting. It's got 16MB of onboard memory and a Compact Flash card slot to upgrade to 2GB. The audio is low but clear. Battery Life This little jobbie runs on AA batteries! So if you are looking for one that runs on disposables, this little AIPTEK does. It does alright on the lithium AA batteries. Not amazing, but it will last through a major event, and even if it doesn't, it's easy as pie to switch out the batteries. Durability The camera has made it through a major move with no discernable damage. If you lose the software CD, though, and then get a new computer, you could have some problems. Ease of Use Firstly, you are going to need to download drivers from the manufacturer's website before beginning any uploading to the computer using this camera. Then there's the fact that the user's guide included with this leaves somewhat to be desired. Once you've figured out its kinks, though, it's fairly easy to use. Design The camera is extremely compact. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's really pocket sized, unless you're wearing cargo pants. But it can easily be tucked into a purse and it is very light. The design of the Pocket DV5100M is very much like the example shown in the photo. The viewfinder flips out away from the body of the camera. Most of the controls are on the back, facing the videographer. It has a slot for a Compact Flash card, a miniusb port, and an A/V jack. There is a manually adjustable lens on the front, 8.7mm/f3.0. One drawback to the design is that fiddling with the controls eats up the batteries almost as bad as actually using the camera to film. Another is that the software necessary to upload video files to the computer is going to need a driver to work on any OS later than Windows XP, which means a visit to the manufacturer's website after installing the software.

Great basic camcorder

I received this as a gift in 2009 and has lasted 4 years (so far) and is great for filming things such as family functions or kids playing outside. Performance It is difficult to determine when I need the light or not, sometimes it'll be too bright, other times if I don't use the light inside it's too dark Battery Life It is able to go long periods without needing recharged. Durability So far after 4 years of use, no problems yet. Still recording strong as if I just got it. Ease of Use Very simple to use, turn it on and push the record button. Design I'm afraid to handle it too roughly when the screen is open and recording, and it's a disappointment that the only way I can see what I'm recording is by looking at the display and not having the second option of an eyehole or something to look through.

I dont think Aiptek MPVR 6MP MPEG4 Digital Camcorder is a clever choice to make...poor sound quality, picture quality also not so good. You cannot take pictures quickly. It seems worth only if you get at half the price. Suggets to go for other brands whihc you can get in the same price range

Sony offers the largest number of camcorders in the widest range of media. Popular for their ease of use, Sony camcorders are a favorite among point and shoot consumers. While their standard definition MiniDV camcorders are no longer receiving much development, they continue to be popular entry-level models. Their DVD line spans a range of prices and qualities. Sony also entered the HDD market in 2006, and now offers a number of options. Sony has taken the lead in consumer high definition with three media choices: tape-based HDV camcorders, and DVD and HDD camcorders using the new AVCHD compression. You'll also find links below to older reviews of their Hi8, Digital8, and MicroMV formats.

This product is a good starter camera at a very reasonable price

This Aiptek camera would be a great camera for people who want an inexpensive camera for fairly good resolution pictures and short movies.      If one can not afford a more popular brand name digital video camera, this model would be the first step up the ladder to a more sophisticated camera.

Great video, very bad audio!

This little Aiptek HD cam is pretty cool.   Our bandmembers were each given this little camcorder by our producer to document our own stuff while recording at Abbey Road Studio London(we also took high quality video equipment).  Video is great and clear, however the audio is less than desireable.  Pictures aren't too bad.

I received this for Christmas and I have been so happy.  I can use it as a camera, a camcorder, webcam,  and a mp3 player.  It has a stabilizer on it you can set.  We all know ours hands are not always study.  It has 8 meg pixels.  The pictures are so good.I have also used the video and was surprised on how well it came out.  And the voice recording was right on.  And if your into taking videos at night it has a night shot video set for light supply. With a grand child coming soon I is going to be so handy.  And everything can go on the computer so easily.
