Sometimes slow

3

My family has been on AT&T for years and we have actually had a lot of issues with our routers. We had 1 before this one that was also 2Wire and now we have this router. Performance Sometimes, my router gets really slow for no reason. It lasts for maybe a couple hours and no one in my family knows why. We have 3 lines on this router, my dad's desktop, my brother's laptop, and mine. However, sometimes the router gets really slow, even if only 1 person is using the internet at the time. Setup & Ease of Use The setup is really simple. It comes with easy instructions and images for the non-tech-savvy people like me to visualize with. Service & Support They have great service! If we have any issues, they will come to our house and try to fix them. Last year, we had an issue with our router and the same guy came 3x to fix it! He was really nice, and the problem was eventually fixed. Even though the router has a lot of issues, the service and support is great.

Skip it, not worth the price

I've used various brands of routers, and this is one of my least favorites. Originally supplied with AT&T's DSL service, this router isn't worth the price. I first dealt with this at a friends who had AT&T's DSL service. The router would only let 3 out of 4 of our laptops connect, and even then, the Internet would slow down to a complete stop. Even if one person was using it, the internet would lag drastically. You couldn't even open a few kb's worth of a .doc file in your email. I then ordered AT&T DSL service when I moved into my own apartment. Then sent me this router and after a few days of usage on my own I sent back along with their modem. I was plagued with the same problems no matter what I did. I bought a Netgear Modem/Router to replace it soon after and now my internet runs smoothly. I haven't had a drop signal or wireless issues or speed lag at all. I switched my friend over as well and now his rusn smoothly too. Skip this, go Netgear.

Lasted for 4 Years

4

what i love about the Gateway 2Wire is that number one: it lasts long. Sure, it carries a hefty price tag, but mine lasted for a good few years before it just mysteriously died.  number two: less wires/ no need for a wireless router (a linksys router can run for a hefty price). with the Gateway, I don't have to use a wireless router, which makes a HUGE difference since there is only one source of connection to the internet--the signal does not go through a third party (the router) before my laptop gets the signal. so, when (and if i do) have an internet connection problem, I do not have to call two different companies (one for the router and one for the modem), blaming each other for the internet connection, getting nothing resolved. Trust me. I've been there. And I have counted. Over the corse of two months, I spent a total of 24 whole hours on the phone, trying to fix my crappy internet connection.  of course, you can always just go LAN with wires, but you can only connect to four computers, all within the reach of the wire, which is a hassle.

love this 2wire never had a problem!

I really like this router. I was a bit skeptical to pay for one through AT&t when I signed up for service, because they do give the option of buying your own, but honestly its way easier to use there's if you do not have one already. I have never had a problem with the router. It literally has been on for over a year I have only had to reset it maybe once or twice. I really like the fact that it works so well and does not get hot and does not have to be reset. I keep it upstairs and it goes all the way to the basement with no problems or interruption's. This is a good router and comes with everything you need to set it up when they send it to you. I have not had a problem with security either. I think this is a good thing for your money and it lasts forever! I am glad that I invested in it. I would recommend.s going this route if you do not have a router already, just makes things easier to have everything you need.

not once had a problem!

I have a very high opionion of 2wire products.  I have had a wirelss router from 2wire for 3 years now and have never had to call the company for even the slightest problem.  I have taken numerous trips and live in a new neighborhood where the electricity has been turned on and off quite a few times and the router has reconnected perfectly very single time.  The signal strength is also very strong.  When I purchase the router it came with an installation CD that took me through every step of the process.  It had a video so that I could see exactly what I was supposed to do that step and it had instructions that could be read, spoken, or both.  I had the router set up within 15 minutes and was given the number of an actual person that I could speak to if I had any problems.  I moved once during this period in time and took my router and internet service with me and that transition was also very smooth.  2wire routers work with most internet services in the US.

Better than expected

I have had this router for over a year and I have had no problems with it. The range is good and the speed is good. I like the style of it compared to other routers. Not much to say on this one, it is user friendly and it doesn't take much to set up. Good value for the money.

****    The ATT 2701 HG-B Gateway is a very good unit. I am happy with the unit so far. It was easy to set up. The lights let you know whats going on. I would recommend this unit. It works pretty fast. I haven't had any problems with it. It makes DSL very easy and enjoyable. The instructions are very easy to follow. It is quite small in size so it doesn't take up much space. It is a nice looking piece of equipment. The price of this unit is very reasonable. It works just they they say it should work. You don't need to be a professional to install it. It made going from dial up to high speed seem like a whole different world. It has been a very enjoyable experience for me. The bright lights make it very easy to see whats going on. This peice of  equipment seems to be very well made. I would recommend this router to anyone from the very experienced in technology to the person that is just learning about these things.

Great modem, great wireless, except it has a few flaws (for me).

4

The 2Wire modem made specifically for AT&T is alright - don't get me wrong, but there are a few problems with it. First, I will start on a lighter note with it's pros. It comes with wireless availability. And this came with the DSL internet service (IDK if it came with the service for any of you, but it did for me) I got from AT&T, so I consider that very generous and very cool, as I have not received a free wireless access point with my modem up until AT&T. Not to mention it's settings panel is very easy to access, and I've been able to go onto there and manage my modem whenever I needed to, in case if anything was wrong or I needed anything changed. But unfortunately with this modem, I do not know if it happens with everybody, but it happens with me. I do receive occasional Internet crashes. Sometimes it randomly just loses connection, and the DSL light starts blinking red for about a minute, and then it regains connection. Then, other times, it completely resets itself. And a few rare times, it goes into what I call "coma mode", where it forgets everything and you have to re-enter your ATT username and password just to continue using your Internet connection. So, in conclusion, I like this modem. I really do. I just think that there are a few flaws and, after they're fixed, I'd be a happy Internet user.

Great control over your Internet.

4

For the past few months, we (me and my sister's family) have been enjoying how easily we are connected to the Internet and the amount of control we have over it. For example, we can change the name of our network and our password at any time, we can monitor and select who and what gets to connect to the Internet through our router, and it allows us monitor our data usage. It also emits great signal, so we can have the security of being connected. Those are some of the good characteristics. Not everything is perfect, though. Ever since we had the router, we realized that, occasionally, data transferring from the router to our devices would lag and cause our webpages to display a "We cannot display the webpage" message. This would really frustrate us, especially when we do online purchases. Also, the security of the router is WEP, which isn't the best type to have, but it's better than nothing. Other than that, it's pretty efficient. Overall, it's great. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. I'm confident about recommending it to others.

well i have the at&t modem and i have never had a problem with it.at first we had a little trouble with getting it hooked up but there customer service was great they stayed on the phone with us as we worked out the problem and it was somethings simple.are internet exsplore wasnt working the right way so we had to switch to another browser.but after that no problem what so ever. the connection is great the speed is excellent.it is also very small so you can move it to hard to reach places.and i have a 2 and 3 year old.and i  can just put it up and a small tight spot that they cant get to.and moving it wasnt a problem at all . all of the wires stay in and dont move.i would have to say that i am very happy and satisfied with this product.i have had others in the past and they did not last very long and i had allot of problems.they didnt stand up to having kids next to them when  mom was busy on the computer.
