I stayed at the Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms in September 2009. Specifically, I stayed at the Boardwalk Inn. First of all, the overall check in process was great. I got my vehicle pass in the mail a week prior to my arrival, which allowed me to go right through the security/guard gate onto the property very quickly. The staff at the Inn was magnificant. From bellhops and valets to front desk and housekeeping, everyone made me feel welcomed. All were very accomodating to my needs and requests. They were just great in general! Always had a smile on their faces and a 'hello' for myself and my party.

I was slightly disappointed in my ocean view room...the beach and water were a distance away and several Dunes housing complexes were in between...I could definitely hear the water when I sat on my balcony though. The room was spacious, well appointed, and very clean. The restaurants and food were excellent, although choices were somewhat limited on resort grounds...great food nearby at Morgan Creek Grille and only a short drive to Shem Creek, Sullivans Island, or downtown Charleston with numerous dining options.  Total travel time to downtown with traffic is approximately twenty to twenty-five minutes.

I did not participate in any sports but golfing and tennis obviously big here.  I attempted to take the sunset dolphin tour on the intercoastal waterway.  Sadly, it was cancelled due to bad weather.  However, it sounded as though it would be a wonderful experience. The numerous pools and surrounding lounge areas where great - plenty of chairs/lounges, cabanas and shade when wanted, wonderful pool side service. I had a massage at the spa - which was okay...definitely had better but have also had worse. First of all, it was only 50 minutes instead of sixty. Secondly, the Quiet Room was not overly relaxing...not a lot of seating, minimal refreshments, and treatment rooms open right into the main lounge/waiting area. That being said, a massage is still a massage!! The beach was very private and was not crowded at all, chairs and umbrellas were provided for a daily rental fee.

Overall, a great place to go and relax when you want to be on the ocean/beach, while still being close to the hustle and bustle of downtown Charleston with all of its historic and dining amenties. Would go back in heartbeat!
