As a teacher for 17 years and a mom of an active 8-year-old, I really recommend Webkinz.com.  There are so many opportunities to practice reading skills. They have story books that you can buy and read online as well as a newspaper.

 They have a great section called Quizzy's Corner where kids can earn Webkinz cash for answering questions.  The categories are by ages and include the following subject matter:  Math, The Arts, Social Studies, Health, Language, and Science.  For example, one of the Science questions for ages 7-8 was, "What does the word 'endangered' mean?"  It gives four multiple...

When my child asked for this toy, I wondered at first why she was so excited about it. My child explained to me that each stuffed animal allowed her to go online and register it. I was told that she would be able to play in an online world with all of the animals that she adopted. My child has numerous Webkinz animals and enjoys them immensely. She collects them and plays with her sister. I have three children and all of them ages five, seven and ten love these Webkinz and play together with them for hours. Love themand the online components,  I want to buy them all.  My kids love them , I love them.  They are sooooo fun.  I hope they keep coming out with new ones.  We have a lot of them.  My daughter has about 40 and my sone has about 30.  I wish I had money now to buy the 3 new ones, the collie, the charcoal cat and the penguin.

I love everything about this Webkinz.  How it works is, you purchase an stuffed animal (we got our from Hallmark),on your pet is a code that you enter into the computer when you register the animal.  Then you're given a room for it to "live".  You earn money to buy things furniture, toys, clothes, and even food for your pet.

 And it is totally safe!  Kids can talk to each other, but there is a preset communication format that is used, so there is no worry about anything inappropriate being said.  It's just good, wholesome fun.

    My family and I were introduce to Webkinz about a month ago.  My mother called me when she was at worked and asked if I had ever heard of Webkinz.  I really didn't know much about them, but I had heard the name before.  She told me about one of the newest and greatest crazes.  She told me about them because she thought my oldest daughter would enjoy them.  She bought an elephant for my daughter because she thought it would be a lot of fun for her to enjoy.

Webkinz is outstanding! When you are either online or playing with the stuffed animal you are having fun either way. Playing with webkinz helps with the imagination, creativity, and education of your children. My daughter has webkinz and absolutly loves it. Webkinz really effects children. How? Webkinz is a great safe place for kids to play.  There is no way to actually talk to people while on the site.  We are very careful with the sites our daughter can use and so far Webkinz seems to be the safest.  You cannot chat with each other at all.  You can send a preprinted message when competing in a game like "good job" " wanna play again" ect.  but none of the walking around "Hey hot stuff" you get on wizards realm or those other sites.  The only down side is the toys run from $6 for Lil Kinz to $20 for the regular Webkinz but once you buy one you can play online all year for free....
