My current favorite is Vosges chocolates--have you tried them?

No, but I'll keep them in mind.  I have a sneaking suspicion they are expensive.  Bissinger's Chocolates (St. Louis, MO) are excellent.  Some people swear by Godiva.  I still root for Fannie May fruit creams (or any other kind of Fannie May for that matter.)

Leave us not forget that chocolate doesn't have to be gourmet (i.e. expensive) to be good.  World's Finest has been pumping out a very respectable product for years and when I die someday, I'll know I'm in Heaven if God walks up to me and offers me a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

I've never heard of that brand.  I can't say that I'm really into gourmet chocolate though so I'm sure I'm no help :)  My dad gets a humongo box of Godiva every year for Christmas and it doesn't even phase me. I think it tastes awful and would rather eat Hershey or Ghirardelli to be quite honest.

Anna!  LOL That's too funny about the Reese's! I agree though.  They're great.

I love Vosges too! AnnaBanana, they are expensive, but are truly worth the experience! The lady who started the company was inspired by her global travel and truly puts certain things in chocolate that one would never think would go together! Makes for a great gift for the adventures--you know what, I should review it!

Hear you on the Reeses cups too! Have you ever tried eating frozed Peanut M&Ms? Try them out--get a bag and put them in your freezer and tell me what you think!

I'm a huge sucker for great chocolate. The best chocolate I've ever had was at Laduree. Mmmmmmm. But when that's not in the game plan, Cadbury Eggs with the cream inside are dee-lish. I just wish it was Easter all year round.

Vosges is a mountain range in France, near the German border I believe. With a name like Vosges, I assume the chocolates are either French or have Euro pretenses.

I like Lindt chocolates and Godiva has some delicious stuff. However, the chocolate I buy on a regular basis is Dove dark chocolate. It comes in little squares and is absolutely heavenly. I never eat more than two squares at a time (usually just one), but they are excellent.

I once got a Dove bar ice cream bar that was coffee ice cream dipped in Dove dark chocolate. I thought I'd won the lottery!

I think See's is probably the best I have had.  I know Dove isn't considered "gourmet", but it sure is creamy and sinfully wonderful too!

I love Belgium chocolate. I can't think of the name so if anyone can help me. It's not the usual. In fact I have only seen it once in the U.S. and I think that was at Fisherman's Wharf in SF. I've done a search and cannot find the name. I'll probably think of it in the middle of the night. It's not Godiva or the other G brand...Is anyone from Belgium here? This will drive me nuts!

Paula mentioned Ghirardelli and that's a terrific brand. Ghirardelli brownie mix (sold in a HUGE box at Costco) is excellent.

M&M comes in dark chocolate, and I particularly enjoy M&M peanuts with dark chocolate. Look for M&Ms in the purple bags -- that's the dark chocolate version.

Yeah, I know it's not "gore-may" but it tastes so good I don't care!

Heck yeah, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory! I found one in Texas, so there may be one near you!

If you're in northern Utah, The Bluebird Resaurant in Logan has a soda fountain and chocolate counter in there. The in-laws send us stuff every holday!

It is not gourmet, but I ♥ Dove chocolate. Every Christmas we get my dad several boxes of the Nestle Turtle's. Now that is my favorite chocolate. Yummy!!!

Dove comes in at a close second to a little chocolatier in Lebanon, Ohio, called the Chocolate Turtle...they have the most incredible dark chocolate-dipped candied orange peel!!!  (They look a little like cat poo, but they taste incredible, and their chocolate is absolutely decadent!)

Yay for Fannie May's bittersweet chocolate-covered vanilla creams!  Hope God has some stocked up for me.  (But not for awhile, please.)

My long-time favorite is Scharffen Berger's 62% Dark Chocalate Nibby, which is pretty easy to get in Chicagoland, but I just tried the Taza 80% Stone Ground, and I have to say that's the best chocolate I think I've ever had.  A nice thick bar, and a fairly course texture, but so much flavor.  Yum.

Dagoba - organic dark chocolate. All of the flavors are WONDERFUL (there are 17), but the one with cocoa nibs and chilies in it, called Xocolatl, is my favorite among those I've tried. Unfortunately, it's more than $3/bar, so it's rare to splurge on it, and then I only allow myself 1 or 2 chunks at a time.
