Election Day is Nov. 3, 2009. Are you going to/did you vote? Why/why not? Are you registered to vote? Would you change anything about the voting procedure?

I'm an election board worker at the polls, so I'll be there! I send in an absentee ballot because the district where I'm assigned to work isn't the same district where I vote.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the voting process, not individual parties or candidates (but what happens, happens!)

I will vote!

I am especially curious about tomorrow's election's results for the govenetorial elections and the New York congressional race where Doug Hoffman [third party candidate] is creating quite a stir in the news.

I always vote. People died to allow me the right to vote, I think of voting as a privilege and a duty and a right as an American. I belive that if you don't vote  you dont have the right to complain about the government we have. Since I like to complain I vote.

It's an important vote in Washington, as a group is trying to take away rights from domestic couples in the state.  It's on the ballot because they got the signatures required, but that doesn't make it right.  It's just flat out ridiculous, and I hope that common sense prevails among the voters.

I will be there as always. I appreciate the right to vote not just in the "big" elections but all of them. My kids will be there too now as will my husband. We try never to miss a voting day.

Just a comment... I'm a little disappointed that more people aren't interested in this thread.

Does this reflect the lack of interest in voting shown by this country?

Do we as Americans take voting for granted because it's always been there for us?

Working at the polls during this last election, I'd say that about 1/3 of the voters in our district were foreign born. This district is primarily populated by American born people. The voting population wasn't representative of the resident population.

My heart went out to this Asian-born lady that stopped by the polls. She said that she recently became a citizen and knew she couldn't vote that day. But she wanted to know how to register to vote and learn about the process. I think this shows how foreigners value the voting process where we sometimes don't.

You have a valid point. They seem to appreciate what many of us take for granted.

I get frustrated when people vote from a "sound bite" or the advice of friends and have no concept of the issues or stands of the candidates.

I vote for president but never have in any other election.  Why? Well heck I don't even know these people that run the city. I didn't even know there was anything to vote for in our city until the day was almost over.  I've only been in the city for a few years and I don't know any of the names on the list.

Honestly I think I'd only be motivated to vote for city elections if I felt our city was doing badly.  Otherwise I'd probably just be voting for the person that had the most signs around.  I don't actually remember seeing any advertisement or anything for the city officials this year.
