Thought I would add a twist to the other discussion on stars.  Have you met any stars?  Actors, musicians, etc?  In my DJ years after high school, I met a lot of musicians.  I also have a cousin that is an actor.  He got into the business starting out as a bodyguard to the stars.  I met Dennis Quaid through him when they came to Louisiana to play in a concert.  Did you know Dennis Quaid had a band or did have?  Not sure if they even still play.

So how was it?  Did you get to talk to them or just shake hands?  What was your overall impression?

What I have noticed in meeting several big names is that they are super nice doing their publicity rounds in talking and shaking hands.  However, most do not hang around longer than necessary.  I guess you can't blame them since they have to do this all the time.

I remember over 10 years ago meeting John Lithgow (3rd Rock From the Sun).  He is such a funny man, I thought he was going to be mean in person.  I was wrong and so happy for being wrong.  He was in a rush at the airport, but he stopped to talk about future projects and give autographs.  Thanks John!

You were a DJ too?  KEWL~!  25 years here...my son was basically breast fed on rock & roll.

I've met so many, Motley Crue, Wendy O (RIP) Legs Diamond, and at least 100 more bands, not as many TV/Movie stars.

My fave musician, as in the other thread is GLENN HUGHES,

post link~!  Remember Trapeze?  Here's "Medusa"...it rox

I shook the hand of William Shatner at a press conference a few years ago, and asked him a few questions. He was polite but rather bland.

Although I was a DJ for several years, I don't recall meeting any musical celebrities. I was a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show twice in 1996, so I got to speak to Oprah a few times on camera. (She made herself scarce when the cameras were off.)

I've seen a couple other actors, usually in the process of making a movie. One that I can recall was Kevin Bacon. And I bumped into Sam Donaldson of ABC News while waiting for my car at a parking garage. We chatted for a moment and he was polite.

I've seen one president in the flesh at a fairly close distance (Lyndon Johnson -- I was a kid!) and saw a VP drive by in a limo (Nelson Rockefeller, Gerald Ford's VP). I went to President Obama's inauguration but could only watch on big-screen TVs.

Personally NO but we have a photo from years ago when my dad met Hulk Hogan in the airport I believe.  He let him take a couple pics and as I hear it he was friendly.

I like that song, too. I'm actually from upstate NY but ended up in Virginia.

I DJ'd full time for a few years, but the pay and hours were so awful. I ended up on a 50 kW FM station in Erie, PA -- it was fun for a few months but I got my fill. I actually enjoyed gathering and writing news more than DJ'ing. I can still do the radio voice if I have to...

My only claim to fame was Jimmy Carter in the late 90s. We were in Aspen on a family trip (my dad had a conference there, for the record) and went on a hike to the Maroon Bells. Basically we hiked around a swampy area in a chilly drizzle. My mom and I were on a bridge and some horses started to pass in the water. I remember a man asking us to move out of the way for a moment, and another convoy of horses passed by. We didn't think anything of it until we went to the trail head and an old man was standing there.

I just started to talk to him. My mom took his picture, but I thought that she was just taking a picture of the scenery. He's a great guy - very nice. I didn't realize who it was until the bus ride home. I have his picture somewhere!

John Denver was a distant uncle of mine, but I never met him. My grandmother did though - she was never impressed. Even my aunt said he was a complete jerk.

I met Ed McMahon in an elevator once on my way to work.  There was a radio station 2 floors above my office that he was visiting as part of his Star Search thing or whatever that show was.  So when I stepped into the elevator he was standing there. Kind of weird and random.  I just said hi and he said hi back.

Then when I was living in California I ran into Dean Cain at a restaurant.  Literally just walked right into him while walking out of the restroom.  Kind of embarassing.

My mom has met a lot of rock stars which is kind of cool.  She used to be a nurse for a doctor who is known locally as Rock Doc as he is the on call doctor for concert tours coming to the area.  So she met some stars as a result of her association with him.

I don't think I've met too many "stars." I once participated in a Boy Scouts/Miami Dolphins banquet back in the 1970s and met most of the Perfect Season Dolphins, including Bob Griese, Larry Csonka and Garo Yepremian. I was - and still am - shy but I got their autographs on my banquet program. Actor-wise? I met Walter Koenig, who played Mr. Chekov on the original Star Trek and seven of the movies at a Trek convention in 1989. It was on my birthday and when a friend of mine told him so, he wished me a happy birthday.

The most famous folks I've met and actually had dinner with:
Kevin James from King of Queens and  Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Don Edwards, singer/actor who played Robert Redford's dad in The Horse Whisperer
John Waters, Producer/Actor in Hairspray
Leon Redbone, Singer/Entertainer
John Henton, Overton from Living Single
Justin McBride,  PBR, Interview behind the scenes of a ProRider
Toby Keith, Country Singer, Assisted with CD signing at a local country radio station

I was the representative at the university [I retired from] who contracted the entertainment for our college.  Very cool job!  Got to meet lots of interesting people and entertainers and a free meal out of the deal!  Not bad!!

That's too bad Inspector, the 50kw FM may just be the reason. I had the opposite experience $$$wise.  Guess I was lucky.  Radio/TV/News/Commercials bought me this house.

But you've got more houses than me now so you win :)~

100,000 kw of Steely Dan :) no less.

Yes, I loved it.  I was working two part time jobs while still in high school and when I graduated I went full time at the industrial safetywear company. I still worked some nights and weekends and it really got taxing so I quit the DJ job.  It was so much fun!

Nancy, I quit before I got married.  Those were the good old years..haha.  I did v/o's too for friends still in the business up until a couple of years ago.  I don't stay in touch with any of the old gang anymore.  And of course, most have moved on.  DJ's have a way of moving around a lot!

Now, if we go beyond actors (and I'll get back to actors in a moment), singers, and athletes, I have met a few other famous persons.

The most prominent? Captain James Lovell, who flew Navy jets in the Korean War and was later a test pilot and astronaut who went to space three times (Gemini 7, Apollo 8 and Apollo 13.  That was at a press conference/presentation he gave at a South Florida high school; I represented my school paper and wrote an article.

Then there was the time I was invited by my History of World Civilization (Honors) professor to have lunch with Jonathan Miller, a British doctor-turned-author-playwright-Broadway producer,

For those of you who want to know about this guy, here's a link to his Wikipedia entry.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Miller#Filmography

As for actors, I already mentioned meeting Walter Koenig, who played Mr. Chekov in the original Star Trek TV series and seven of the feature films, right?

Well, I neglected to mention one actor in particular, Juan Carlos Hernandez, who has appeared in various films (War of the Worlds, High Crimes) and TV shows (Oz, Law & Order).  I went to school with Juan and we were in drama class together; we became close friends and hung out for a couple of years till college life separated us.  He's gone on to become a film maker in his own right; his first movie, Waking Up in Astoria, is even listed in the Internet Movie Database.

I bumped into Chevy Chase while shopping on Long Island and he is very tall! I said sorry and then I realized who it was and he smiled and put his finger to his mouth to say shhh to me. I wasn't going to start a conversation, I was shocked. I stopped my car to let Mark Walburg cross and he checked me out. Hehehe, this was before he did movies. I used to live in and around Boston and it wasn't unusual to see him around.  He came across as arrogant, but I have no idea if that was just his image.

At a popular piano bar one night - Lou Rawls walked in and did 2 numbers with the boys.  I stood there dumb founded as I shook his hand.  Nice man 4 sure.  I shed a tear when he passed away.

Later, at a different piano bar (same guys singing) Stan Musial was there.  Now here is a TRUE GENTLEMAN!  Nicest man in all of baseball.  I sent him a fax once, wishing him a "Happy Birthday".  A week later, I received an autographed 8 X 10 glossy - FREE!  It's now estimated to be worth $300...or more.

I agree!  I can remember introducing bands for big concerts. We used to "fight" over who got to do it at the station.  LOL!

I think the nicest musician I met was T. Graham Brown.  He was real cool and took a lot of time talking to us.  He lectured my oldest daughter about boys...haha!  Mindy McCready was nice too before she got into all the drugs and trouble.  I have a picture of her with my oldest daughter.  They look a lot alike.

I worked for an AM station...remember those?  lol  I think one of our best pranks at night was to tune in to the other local station and call and win their contests.  Was too funny!!

We could have an "ole" (notice I didn't say old) DJ convention right here!

That is soooo funny because I feel just the opposite. For seven years, I worked on five or six radio stations, starting from age 17 and loved the work. But the pay was strictly minimum wage or maybe 25 cents more. And the hours! It was either up at 5AM to do the morning shift or in at midnight to do the midnight-to-6AM shift. Management always treated the jocks like idiots, too.

If you did well as a DJ, you are indeed one of the few lucky ones. I don't regret the work but am glad I got out. I really felt like I paid my dues.
