I'm a little puzzled by this and I'm glad you brought it to the attention of the group.  Whenever something bone-headed like this happens, I look it up on the Internet.  Of course, there are no guarantees that this is the same person but someone named "PeaceLove" is a long-winded emotional opinionated writer who has created a mind-numbingly long blog.  I suspect that he somehow stands to profit from page-views and people looking at this blog.  My guess is that he probably trying to work up an e-mailing list of people who will unwittingly open messages from him and thus access the blog.

What surprises me is that he has only targeted you and one other person here at ViewPoints but the night is young.  As much as I love ViewPoints, I think this website is particularly susceptible to wierd things happening now and then because most people understand that -- even though this is a writing site -- you don't really have to achieve anything constructive to be here.  Just being here is enough.  I'm not saying that is a bad thing, I'm just saying that this increases the likelihood of something strange happening.

All of the above is the best-case scenario.  The worst-case is that PeaceLove is a hacker who may do your computer serious harm if you send an e-mail to him.   At any rate, I think your advice to ignore this is wise and well-taken.

I got the same comment and deleted it. It's all just spam and I don't want it on my page. Next I'll be seeing that I will be getting $15M from a Nigerian who passed away leaving  a huge bounty and all I have to do is provide my bank details to get the cash. heh.

You know, Patty, now that  you mention it, I wonder if there isn't a Nigerian connection going with PeaceLove.  You will note the spelling of "colour" and some of the wierd sentence construction.

As an added note, it's not that I think "colour" is mispelled as I know this is a bona fide alternative spelling but "colour" is a version I associate more with British (or Nigerian people who use English as a second language). 

I haven't gotten a long email like that, but I have gotten links to websites, which, obviously I do not navigate to. If I get emails like that, I check their VP profile. Once I got a message from someone that had no profile.

I never give out my actual email address, I always communicate through VP. Yahoo! (and probably many others) is just rampant with people trying to take advantage of others like that. My profile on there is hidden. My husband had an unhidden profile and the emails he was getting were so numerous, x-rated, and scammy that we had to close his account outright and move to another service.

I guess if we are vigilant, things should turn out ok.

I've gotten a few odd comments on my profile over the last few weeks too.  Unfortunately it does happen from time to time and you're probably not the only one to have gotten that same comment.  You can always click the Inappropriate button on the comment, delete it from your profile, or shoot an email to Meredith if it really bothers you :)

Excellent move Anna trying to track this....I won't even call it a person, you know what I mean.  That never even crossed my mind as to go that far.

I don't know, but there could be more of us that received this message.

That's xactly what I thought when I saw "colour".  Another one is "grey".  It screams...suspicious!

Everyone is pretty much aware of spam.  However, there are trusting people, (especially on this site), that may be naieve to it and respond.  Just trying to get it out there. 

I too got one and reported it. Meredith said lots of women especially are being targeted (I got a comment on the site) and not to engage the person. Jo

You're doing a great job keeping up with things like that, Meredith.  Because of the nature of the Internet, there's no way to totally avoid wierd stuff so I'm glad everyone is being careful.

Someone sent a spam email with a supposed business URL. The person who sent it wasn't a member and fortunately I knew better than to click the link. Who knows what would have happened?!

These are most common with mypace and tagged, not so common here and with facebook in my opinion. Generally speaking, I think I get about three of these a week, and a TON of spam in my email (I advertise online, hard to avoid)

I am getting very tired of getting emails to enhance my manhood though---LOL.
