I have found so many interesting, funny and inspiring mottos here on Viewpoints.  I am wondering, when reading reviews, how you see people living their mottos.  I am thinking of Jo who writes "Exercise: you don't have time not to." —Anonymous"  Her photos, blog and reviews totally support her motto.  Do you see other people who are "living" their motto?

Well I live mine.... sometimes :)  Mine is

"Life is uncertain... eat dessert first!" and while I don't literally eat dessert before dinner (well I have before :)), I do tend to focus on things I enjoy before getting lost in chores and boredom!

You can see this in my reviews, I think, because I have 245 movie/tv reviews, and tend to have a hard time finding "Home and Garden" stuff to review :)

I guess I have to live mine: "It's not how many times you fall down that matters, it's how many times you get up."

So far, I have fallen one less time than I have gotten up so for now, I am living my motto every day. I just wish I didn't have to fall so darn much. It hurts! ;)

I'm not sure if I actually live out my motto but I know me and many others can relate to my motto.

"Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live." ~Norman Cousins

I have experienced so many losses with the most recent being the death of Brannigan.  There is something that aches to the core of your being and you know there is a void that can never be filled.  But the sweet spirit of God tells you to keep pressing on because death isn't final.

Mine is "What Will They Think Of LAST"?...and I have always tried to live by that motto.  I have never seen it anywhere else that I know of.  It basically is an open-ended thing...like what will they think of before this whole world *dissolves*...or goes kaput...or the universe eats itself.

Speaking of eating, any unwanted dessert I shall steal, as I'm on a certain "plan"...so far 2 more lbs. better~!

Mine is: "Happiness depends on ourselves." - Aristotle

I really do try to live that way, and take responsibility for my own happiness (or unhappiness).  Mine used to be: "Everything happens for a reason" and that is a motto I ALWAYS live by.  It's not so much a religious thing as it is just a way to get through the tough times.

Mine is: "we are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams"

I do not make music. I daydream a lot though, and I have dreams of doing things that will take a long time, but I know I will get there.

That quote is from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I loved the Gene Wilder one, and I think if that was a possible situation, I would be Willy and I kind of have his personality, anyway.

Yes, I always try to live my motto...ASAP - Always Say A Prayer...in doing so, I reap peace of mind that Someone up there is always listening and ready to help me in everything.

My motto is "If you woke up today thinking something good would happen, it probably did."

In other words, positive thinking and outlook are far more important than external circumstances. Joy is a simple, uncomplicated thing. Ever notice how "poor" kids from some third world countries are always smiling and playing and our own, ridiculously overly-satisfied kids seem depressed and agitated all the time?

Different expectations. Different appreciations. I'd rather be happy with nothing than dependent on everything.  Hey, that sounds like a new motto!

Haha. Fixed the title.... and yes, I live my motto - I do "blame it on the rain, yeah... yeah." :)

What a great topic?!

I definitely live mine! "I'm growing older but not up."  It is from Jimmy Buffett who is my favorite musician.  I may be into my thirties but I will continue to live my life, have fun, and generally just relax... as the motto says.  =)

I really like the fact that you've checked out people's mottos, Angela.  You're catching something personal and revealing that a lot of miss.

My motto is:

'Diversity gives society its richness... it also makes it necessary for us to have a dialogue..'  -- Kofi Anan

When my conservative parents sent me to a liberal college, they took a big chance (for which I've always been greatful).

What I learned was that diversity is never something to fear, and that lack of education is probably the single-most impediment to stepping out and having a reasonable societal dialogue.

I'm saddened by today's shouting matches on all fronts.  They're usually manipulated by people with agendas beyond the obvious.  And they generally compromise the integrity of both the individual and the group.

I think we are all better than that.

Oh, Dear! I didn't know the quotes were to be "mottos". I don't have a "motto" posted.  I change my quotes regulary for the seasons, my mood, etc.

Hmmmm, thinking, thinking, thinking... nope. No motto.  Just quotes.

I admit to changing mine around here and there - but it is always something I feel touches me or something that is important to me so I guess yes I live by mine.  I know I live by the one I have now.  What to know what it is? Check out my page LOL

"Believe you can...and you're halfway there!"

I guess I've always lived out my motto.  It was a way for me to attempt things even when I was anxious or fearful.  It's a positive mindset for me, especially since I have a physical disability that places limits on my stamina.

While viewing my profile on another site I noticed that I had posted a quote years ago- It is:

"May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am."  That I have tried to do.

Your "motto" should be easy to live by because dogs love unconditionally, don't judge people and are very forgiving.  You are all of those and more.  Our residential "Mama" Meri has a heart that is filled and overflowing for perfect strangers so how blessed her family, church, and community must be to have her as a part of it.  You are oh so loved and appreciated!!  {Muwahhh!!!}

Blush, blush... it was really sweet of you to say that.

Now, I have to live up to what my dog and Gigi think of me!  sigh.

I change my motto sometimes. my new one is

"Be happy for this moment; this moment is your life..."

This new one really suits me, and I think it's good advice for us all!

I do. "it's good to rub and polish our brains against that of others" which is what we get to do here.  That's a great question and it's great that you noticed that of others. Take care everyone!

"I am a part of everything that I have read." - Theodore Roosevelt

  1. I should read more...  Too much of the news is strictly "sound-bites".
  2. Reading news via the Internet gives one a chance to absorb the entire story from different views...visit different sites covering the same subject.
  3. I don't agree with a lot of what I read; but I understand it.
  4. READ YOUR HISTORY!  "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - George Santayana
