I was reviewing my top hit reviews and found it funny how it all lays out.  You would think that the most expensive items would get the most hits, b/c people would be really researching before purchasing.  However some of my top reviews are not expensive items.  Here's a breakdown of my top reviews for the last 12 months and the approx expense of the item

  1. Home & Garden (Mattress - about $1000)
  2. Web Sites (Free)
  3. Food & Drink (Drink - 2$ or less)
  4. Travel (Airline - $500 or less)
  5. Web Sites (Photo site - 20$ or so per visity)
  6. Travel (Resort - $2500)
  7. Beauty (Makeup - 10$ or less)
  8. Food & Drink (Shelved food - 2$ or less)
  9. Movie (Older - 10$)
  10. Sports (Exercise Machine - 200$)

I guess what amazes me the most is how the foods make it onto the top 10 hit reviews.  It's funny to think that people are actually out there actively searching for foods that I buy at the store every week!  Of course it makes sense that the Vacation I went on is on the top list, but I actually was surprised it didn't move up to the very top seeing as it was so expensive.

This proves to me that, while expensive items are more likely to get hits, all reviews can equally get hits and it's hard to judge!  I've reviewed other hotels and kitchent things that I thought people would research a lot, and these aren't even on my list until page 3, yet Food and Drinks show up everywhere.

So what do you guys see in your stats?  Does the cost of the item seem to affect how many hits you are getting?  Or does it seem that even low costs items are topping the list?

My top review is of a bottle of mouthwash, followed by a movie.  Go figure :)

I see Alice in Wonderland.  No rhyme, no reason--just a cat with a stupid grin on his face.

Mouthwash is important in this day and age :-D

Isn't it funny that people seem to research movies more than big purchases?  I mean, a movie may be 9$, but a vacation could cost thousands!  My movie revies tend to get near the top as well.

$9.00 for a movie? I still remember freaking out when paying $3.00 for Return of the Jedi seemed like a huge extravagance!

Right now my Top 5 looks like this:

 1. Best Romantic Comedies: My Top List

2. Epinions

3. "Indiana Jones" Hat Indiana Jones Hat

4. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

5.  Fardreamer Dreams Up a List of the Best Romantic Movies

I think that in these uncertain times, escapism seems to trump harsh realities such as the expense of a vacation.

My top review by a mile is a $50.00 pair of sandals. After that it's a $10.00 exercise gadget, a bra, contact lenses, a flea remedy, a liquid diet drink, a TV show, a yoga gadget, a very cheap foam mattress topper, and a free website. The last few change as they have several on their heels but none are pricey items and one is discontinued and I have no idea why people keep looking for reviews on it.

Definitely, this proves to me that no review is useless and that there are people out there looking for info on things that we probably never expected them to be. I mean...AwfulPasticSurgery.com in the top 10 of all my 1170 reviews? WHY? lol.

I love that simple things get reads. It says to me that we should review everything! :)

Of course, my one clothing review is of a somewhat not-so-cheap fedora.

It is really weird. I was astounded when I realized that people were searching for dog food but they are! Jo

Wow Patty, interesting top reviews!  They are all over the place!  Yes I do agree everything is worth reviewing.

Jo, I am not surprised people search for pet food.  Pets are such a pain!  When we had a dog, he would not eat some foods we bought, or gain too much weight with other foods, so we definitely looked for advice online.

My top review is a pickup truck tire sold exclusively at a certain auto parts chain. It may very well be the only Internet review of this tire and the company advertises the tire heavily every week, so I'm not all that surprised at the traffic my review gets. Then again, tires cost a chunk of money and you hate being stuck with the wrong ones.

A fast-rising review of mine is on Just For Men hair color. Before I started using it, I could find no reviews of it on the Internet. None. I knew it would be popular and it is, and a package costs just $7.

If you look over the items that people say are popular, what strikes me is that many other sites probably do not list these items. It's only because Viewpoints allows us to add anything that we find there is a hunger out there to read up on offbeat products. Bras? Men's hair color? Food? Dentists? There's no other place to review these things that I know about.

My top 5 are:
1) my 2008 V Star
2) Geico
3) Loratab 7.5 (darn druggies...lol)
4) Black and Decker Grass Hog
5) Miracle Grow

A rather wide span of products but all useful...I guess it depends on why people search...be it for purchase or just seeing what someone has to say about a product.

I find it funny that people actually look for reviews on TV shows and free websites. I have a free website in my top 10 that isn't a money making one, just one where they show stars' plastic surgery. I can't imagine why so many people would actually read a review of that site rather than just go to it. There's nothing to lose by going there.

Also a TV Show is very heavily read (Criss Angel Mindfreak). Maybe there are a lot of Criss Angel fans out there. I am one. :)

I agree that part of it is because we can add anything we want and there aren't many reviews of things we write about to be found elsewhere. Love it!

I don't know if people LOOK for reviews of TV shows and websites they've seen or been to, but instead I think they look for reviews of TV shows/websites they've never been to to find out if they should start watching or start visiting :)  But that is just a theory of mine!  I know that there are times I hear casually of a new show (Criss Angel was one of those actually) and wonder what it's about or is it really good.

Visiitng a website or watching a TV show does cost you - it cost time.  So I do sometimes read reviews of these things to see if I should spend the time on it.  Otherwise, I read reviews of websites/tv shows, or other free things, that I never heard of as sometimes that leads me to new things.

I haven't been on the site long but the review pulling away from the rest is a $2 product called 'Mosquito coils'.  They give off smoke when lit to chase away mosquitoes. You just never know what people will be searching for on-line.
