I do this a lot so wanted to suggest to others to do the same.  If you come across a listing that is obviously the same as another listing, all you have to do is copy the links for both products and send them off to ViewPoints through their contact us form.  They don't know when duplicate products are added by accident and it's nice for us to help clean them up :)

For example, I looked up Hell's Kitchen the other day and found one listing for Hell's Kitchen with a number of reviews, and another listing for Hells Kitchen with a few reviews.  You see the difference? Obviously I know they are both the same thing so I requested it to be merged and you can see now that it is!

The fact is that some newer members or even experienced members may add a product not realizing it is already there. Perhaps the searched for it and didn't find it because it was spelled wrong.  Or maybe they searched for it and didn't realize the other product was the same thing they owned because the picture looked a little different.

As active community members, it's very helpful for us to report things that need to be merged.  Also, think of the readers! When they come to the site and see 2 or more listings for the same product it's got to be confusing.  So I encourage everyone to report things that need to be merged to keep the site clean and user friendly :)

Great idea, Suzi!  It's always better to "clean up" as you go!  I'm sure VP appreciates this help in sorting out duplicates on the site!--Karen

I do this ALL the time as I'm going through baby products.  I always tease Meredith that she must be sick of my e-mails finding these.  One of my findings caused her to move an entire section to another place in the baby category.

Also wanted to add that if you happen to see a picture that is incorrect to let them know as well.  I had come across a car seat once that was obviously not the right picture for the listing.

I have seen a ton of duplicates but just recently started reporting them. I didn't realize it was possible to merge things so quickly. Beauty has many product listings that need merging as does Wellness (medications especially). I'll send an email whenever I see that stuff now that I know it's something that can be done without a lot of "rigamarole". (My doctor said that to me and I laugh just thinking of the word so I had to use it. Not sure if it's spelled right or if it's a real word. Heh.)

So StarSoldier... Are you saying your Nintendo - NES - Super Mario Bros. Review should be merged to the Game Boy Advance - Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros. Reviews?? I can do that for you but I wanted to make sure they are the same thing. I'm soooo not an informed gamer :)

I'm giving this thread a bump because it is something I have seen recently in the database and newer members may be helped by the information here.

I realize I just posted a review that has been reviewed by others. It's the one on the new food pyramid website. I did a search before writing my review but nothing came up. When you are writing a review of a website, is it best to search for the actual website address, the title of the website, or a term that people may use to search for that info? I put in a bunch of tags on my review, but I'm not sure what tags are entered in the others that exist. Any ideas?

When reviewing a website, I think it's best to search for the name of it spelled out because usually I've found the title is more likely to come up.  Of course, it depends how it was added, so you should try both.  Someone could add Snapfish.com, yet you search Snap Fish and it doesn't come up.  So the answer is to search for both the URL and the title of the website.  THEN also do try a search term.  I just tried searching "photos" and all the websites came up including ones that did not have the word Photos in them (like snapfish, walgreens, etc).

Basically, It's better to cover your basis and be sure it's not already there.

**FYI if you search "snap fish" with a space, it does come up.  Viewpoints is pretty smart!  However my point was that if someone doesn't use the website title, and only uses the URL, it's a good idea to search the URL to be sure.

I have written a review or two and then realized that it should have something else in the title or realized that the title wasn't quite right.  Since I can't edit the title I thought it was set in stone.  I didn't realize there was a way to change it.  For instance, someone did a review on China Glaze nail polish [specifying a color].  I wanted to just do one on China Glaze but specified a color so it wouldn't be confused with the other review.  I think they should both be under an umbrella of China Glaze.  Can you fix that?
